ULSD Fuel
Haven't been paying attention for a while. What is the current availability of ULSD in Baja Sur. I thought it was reported that it was available
throughout Baja now. Just checking to make sure. Thanks in advance.

I read that it is now all ULSD. Can't remember the source but it was a guy who has been testing samples for years. My 2015 Sprinter runs fine down
here

I was wondering the same. Heading south in April and have a new chevy. I think it was as far as Jesus Maira? But not sure about Guerrero Negro or
Santa Rosalia? Or Loreto?? Not sure how to get ahold of Pemex??

Are there no Arco stations in Baja yet? There are many in Sonora already. All of their fuel comes from refineries in Texas. The diesel is ULSD.

Yes, ARCO, Chevron, and BP along with some brands we don't have in California (Spanish or new Mexican brands?).
The thing is the fuel is still from Pemex... from the same depot. The same is true here in San Diego. All the brands get their fuel from the depot
near the old Charger stadium in Mission Valley. Any special ingredients, like Chevron's Techron, is added into the tanker (so they say).

I recently messaged my friend who volunteers at our clinic in La Paz. She and her husband own about 8 or 10 gas stations. Below is my message to her
and her response
Hola Bea, Willie, y familia, Some friends recently asked if Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD - 15 ppm) rather than Low Sulfur Diesel (LSD - 500 ppm) is
now available throughout Baja California Sur? I figured if anybody would know it would be Willie. Thank you guys and hasta el otoño por la clinica (I
have a ton of feet, stump socks, and prosthetic/orthotic parts to bring down).

I filled up at Repsol in La Paz Saturday. The pump had a sticker that said ULSD. Price was $21.1 /L

I found the post from Ed White on Baja Pony Express that I mentioned earlier. Take it for what it's worth but he has been testing diesel in Baja for
years.
. The question whether there is Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) on the Baja gets raised on a regular basis, so here is the latest information, from the
go-to person on the web who has followed the subject for more than 10 years. The entire Baja now has ULSD, EVERY station from top to bottom. This
situation has existed since late in 2017. I was in the Southern Baja (Los Barriles) for almost 6 months over the winter and for the first time ever
there were ZERO sulfur-in-fuel problems reported anywhere on the Baja. My own 2016 diesel truck didn’t throw a single fuel related trouble code all
winter. In March of 2018 I had diesel fuel from a station in Los Barriles tested at a lab in the USA – it was ULSD. Previous lab tests on fuel from
the Northern Baja also confirmed that fuel as ULSD. In addition to the Baja, almost all of Mexico has been pumping ULSD since April of 2018, in
advance of the final date for conversion, which is Dec 31/18. The days of sulfur-in-fuel issues in Mex appear to be over. Ed White

My 2015 Sprinter has made 5 trips down to La Ventana, 3 of which the van has been here for 5-6 months. I brought 40 gallons with me first two trips
but haven't since. Van has never had a problem....

Unnecessary. My truck was down in Loreto for a couple months last year. No fuel related codes. I've definitely had them in the past.

Thanks for all the info. Sounds like the only reason to carry a few extra gallons of fuel is just to make sure you don't run into an empty station.

Arco diesel over here is as low as 18 pesos per liter.
