Entrance exams 2019 - sponsors found 3/28 update
So, I have a great group this year who will be taking their entrance exams soon. Cost of exam is around $1500 pesos (us$80). I need 6 sponsors.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND MONEY until the student gives me the exact amount required...I am just being proactive, so we are ready when the kids need help.
Each student has an overall GPA of 98% or better. Each one has been evaluated monthly by a different teacher each month and has 100% in each
category (school spirit, cooperation, punctuality).
Diana will major in Elementary School Education (La Paz)
Dulce will become a doctor (Ensenada)
Lizeth wants to become an attorney (Ensenada)
Edgar will major in Computer Science (Ensenada)
Julian will live with family in Sonora, mainland. He will study Industrial Engineering.
Rogelio will become a Marine Biologist (La Paz).

pacificobob - I really enjoyed that article! As a linguist, right up my alley.
My personal language beef at the moment is that folks do not say "You are welcome" any more. On TV, the most common response to thank you is thank
you back.
Very odd.

I sometimes take the kids to clean up our village. Julian is the one on the far left. Next to him is Edgar. Next to Edgar is Lizeth.

Love Edgar's letter. Reminds me of my upbringing. Work ethic, education and building your life's wall one-brick-at-a-time.
I'll sponsor all 6 kids; a little extra reward for who they are now and will become in the future.

Here is a copy of Rogelio's letter:
Punta Abreojos B.C.S, November 2018
My name is Rogelio Vergara Mayoral, I am 17, I live in Punta Abreojos. I am a senior in high school and my dream is to major in Marine Biology. Once
I finish college, I would like to work with endangered marine mammals.
I live with my Mom since my parents divorced 7 years ago. That was a very difficult time for me and my grades went down. I started to improve my GPA
in middle school when I realized that if I wanted a better future, I had to study. Ever since elementary school, I have had financial aid* and I have
used this money to buy school material, my uniforms and if there was some left over, I would buy clothes or sneakers.
Now in high school, I am a straight A student and I work hard to keep my A's. My parents can not help me at all. I really need financial help to be
able to go to college.
I thank Blanca Portella for wanting to help me and I intend to show her I deserve it. Thanks for the opportunity and if I get your support, I
promise to make you proud of me.
Sincerely, Rogelio Vergara Mayoral

Six of seven college scholarship candidates are signed up to take the entrance exam. Lizeth is the only one who hasn't rec'd her notification yet.
Here they are with cash in hand, thank you ALL.
First up: DIANA - thanks ThreeToTango!
EDGAR - thanks Baja Parrot Head!
DULCE - thanks Rainer!
JULIAN - thanks BajaMama!
ELIZABETH - she applied to medical school last year and was not accepted. She studied English in the interim and will reapply to be a Marine
