Car repainting in Baja

Hi All,

I am planning my trip to Baja and one of the things I am considering, and to help justify the trip cost ;), is to have my 05 SUV repaint job done in TJ or elsewhere. Anyone here done that?

Silver I hear is a hard color to match so a full paint job appears to be in order. However, it may not worth it to spend 1k (I think) on a Maaco job up here on an older sub worth only about 4k. If I can get one done for half in Baja I'm down for that.

Thanks all,
Sailorv

PS - Hopefully I am posting this in the right section?

Frist off on repaint whole car no problem to match silver. The problem silver one of the worst colors. As it is 85 per cent clear. So it is on repaint short life. If you change color like to white then the Door jambs don't match to paint those correct big job. In Baja very few use base coat clear coat. For me yes paint it in Baja do it white outside only. When you get home a day work yourself tape and spray can jambs.

If your paint not peeling and no body work . The guys around me San Vicente. Charged 300.00 bucks last three cars and trucks I gave them. That was my work over 40 years. At those prices I keep my hands clean.

I need a little body work. Can your San Vincente guy do it?
But mostly just a fresh coat.

There's a place across Hwy1 from Gas Silza in Lazaro Card##as that does body & paint....look for the sign - Carrocería y Pintura

I figure this is the closest place to your "fish camp" at Pedregal....

Trailrider, do you bring your paint from the US, or does your guy use a local supplier? I have a Kia that the previous owner had repainted (in Sonora), and it was a poor match and very short life!

He gets the paint in Ensenada they do stock good paint. When he works for Mexican he never uses it as they wont pay. Good paint very expensive an eye opener. He first matches your color with left over paint. Then that is great base coat saves money. As then only needs buy half the paint for last coats. You want idea how much good paint with clear coat cost. Last two tone double cab Chevy I painted 20 years ago 800.00 just for paint. So when he painted my off road Toyota 300.00 4 colors clear coat . About 6 years ago he got a 300,00 tip. Also color sand and buffed
