Garmin InReach Costco Sale
$219 for the base model now. If you are a regular traveler to Baja and other off-grid areas these are a must. https://www.costco.com/Garmin-inReach-SE%2b-Satellite-Commun...

Fantastic! These are the bomb in Baja. Uses the Iridium satellites so no blank areas like Spot suffers and you have two-way communication instead of
just sending your location and sos.

Really sounds like Costco is discontinuing these, with their "while supplies last" caveat. Is this aged technology?

The cheapest "safety" subscription plan is 11.95/month on a yearly contract (plus 19.95 activation fee) or 14.95 month with no activation fee and
choose the 30 days you want. Cancel and re up another 30 days later.

These are the current model. Probably just a limited quantity they negotiated a great deal on.

Just ordered one, thanks for the heads up. I guess their "while supply last" supply was quite large.
After thinking about it, having one on the boat down here and the drives to the border seems like a good peace of mind for family and friends.
It's great when you can buy peace of mind.

I have an older Garman Nuvi with Mexico on it, it seems to have all the roads on it. Does this have something more?

It is a two-way communicator (text message or email) as well as a tracking device you can let your friends see where you are anytime. Has an emergency
rescue service signal, as well. It has a map screen but also pairs with a smartphone which has a bigger and full-color map screen.

Will it tie in with google earth so you can see where you are any where on the planet? Or can you do that with google maps? Just looking for a real
time gps display.

Too late?
I just tried the link posted, and got, "Sorry, product not found"

"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

Larry, no. It has a map screen but with the EarthMate ap a better, color map shows your position. You can zoom in and out. I have posted samples
during my mapping trips, in my Trip reports.
AK, it was there before and now it is gone. As they say, if you snooze you lose!

Message transmission on these is unreliable. Failed and delayed messages are common. I suspect the problems are not being fixed because there is no
investment being made by garnin and irridium to improve crappy software, servers and obsolete satellites. Probably not investing new $ because the
business is bleeding money, cant find people to throw money into failing venture.
Perhaps Worst of all is the message interface. Where is the keyboard for ease of typing?
Woke!

Not at all true during my 8 research trips of 3-14 days in Baja.
The keyboard is on the cell phone, when mated to one using the Earthmate Ap
Just last month, I exchanged many messages with a Nomad during his trip south (remember my asking about a special truck tire size for him in the Santa
Rosalia to Loreto area?).

I do not know this seller.

I dont need gps/comm in my car. Only want it hiking or kayaking. If i have to pair it with phone, is useless for hiking or kayaking. I certainly dont
want to carry extra wt hiking.
The comm is unreliable, despite your limited success.
Product needs improvement.

I use mine all the time. Mostly just use the preset messages to check-in with my wife and friends. No issues except for a delay once in a slot canyon
in Baja and a dense forest in Oregon. Which model have you used?

I am also very happy with mine and have used it with great success while chasing for races all over the peninsula. Both preset and custom messages
have always worked great. Take longer than typical cellphone messages but mine have always gone through.

Yeah, why let practical, user knowledge, get in the way of your speculation on the unit?

I have been waiting for a sale on the latest. Thanks for the heads up! This type of device will cap off a lot of missing person reports.
Unfortunately, not all...
