Todos Santos dune house construction halted

Just read this in the Gringo Gazette:

A controversial house under construction on the dunes near Todos Santos has finally been closed down after the president of the city of La Paz, (the seat of government), had been saying it wasn't his fault, don't come whining to him. He claimed there was nothing he would/could do because the permits had been issued before his administration took office. But that was before some locals became vocal about their displeasure at this new building. Suddenly Rubén Muñoz backed down, saying well OK, I will close it down. And he did.

Some folks say it's an ecological assault on the dunes to build on them, others just say the whining is by people who thought they had built on the front row and now find there will be houses between them and the ocean. Whatever your view, it doesn't matter because for now the building has screeched to a halt.

Rancho Pescadero is under major rennovation out onto the beach. Major Projects all staging at Cerritos Beach. Infrastructure like sewage disposal and esp water don't seem to be important?! Real Estate buzzards are circling like flies. Que Lastima!

It does seem like a small victory, taking place after the bell has already been rung, but I'll take it. I'm hopeful that it will start a trend toward protecting the dunes and the mangroves, but I'm not naive. If enough money changes hands, those bulldozers will likely pick up where they left off.

Dirt pimps rule the world. There will be no stopping them til there's a condo on every beautiful beach in Baja. Fences are going up and lines are being drawn all over and in the remotest of places.

Every beautiful beach in the world needs a few condo towers - NOT.

No worries we are overdue for a BIG downturn in the economy and when that happens all will be on hold...

Since I've given up all hope, I feel much better

Todos Santos '08 crash. Everything came to a screeching halt.

Damage already done in Cerritos. Punta Lobos is plain sad.

Luxury hotels dotting San Pedrito beach. It's coming.

The "Tequila Ranch" reminds me of the last 3 lines of "Ozymandias":

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Think TR happened about 15 years ago. The owners had dozers come in after dark and took down acres of cardons. Arrested owner who was out the next day. That place is a shrine to a development that will never be developed. Beyond sad.

The dirt pimps are rubbing their hands with glee here in the capital city of Baja California Sur. In their infinite wisdom, the powers (read developers) have raised the height limits on buildings. You may remember the quaint and architecturally attractive Vista Coral. It now looks like an insignificant child's toy next to a VERY large uninspired box. Let the Cabofication begin.

Save the skeets, too! How many of them have been shot down in the prime of their lives for sport?

I remember being able to see multiple 3-story dwellings from your place in Pesky. It's not like they can hide that! And to your point, thanks to the proper deal being struck, they don't have to. As my Grandmother used to say, "¡sin vergüenza!"
