Nice tribute to a great racer and really good guy
We locked bumpers more than once (usually Rod pushing us down the road)
Always a class act, he will be missed

Rod Hall in 1974

From my mid-1970s Baja trips:

July 1974, Mike's Sky Rancho, Score's first Baja race (Baja Internacional)

Inspection the day before the race.

The photos from the 1970s I have shared were originally slides, and we had them converted to disc, so that makes them easy for me to share here. If I have any of the races in the 80s, they are prints and I need to dig them out of my old albums or boxes of photos (I will someday organize), scan and share here. I was at a few races in the early 1980s as a pit captain for Los Campeones Racing Team or just as a spectator.
My two babies were born in 1988 and 1990, so Baja trips were on hold, but for only a couple of years.
I don't think I went to another Baja race until I began taking my kids to Baja until around 2003 for the Baja 500 and San Felipe 250? I took Baja Angel to see the 2005 San Felipe 250 and we helped pit for Baja Pits at the 2006 Baja 500 and Baja 1000 (communications). Those trips are on Nomad and my website.

Rest in peace Rod Hall, a truly great off-road racer. Sadly more and more of the great racers of yesterday are passing away.

Circa '90 I was at the Parker 400 race where they raced in CA with a restart at Osborne Wash in AZ. I was listening to an interview on the local radio station, and the interviewer asked Rod if he was ready to go racing. Hall answered, "As soon as I get Fricker sobered up, we'll be ready."

Thanks for that great photo!
I am pretty sure I don't have one of it.
Do you know which race this was taken at?
There was a time when a lot of 4x4s raced in Baja!
CLASS 3 was Production 4WD
CLASS 4 was Modified 4WD

(previously it was divided into short wheelbase and long wheelbase 4WD)

Excellent... I wouldn't have a photo because I was a co-driver in that race! :light:

Hold on... I can scan the entrant's list from the program...

Here is the finisher's list showing Rod Hall came in 2nd Place. Roger Mears (a Baja Nomad) beat him by 4 hours to La Paz in the Jeep Honcho:

This was the first Score Baja 1000 to run to La Paz... 1979.
