Thank you for your interesting, informative post and congratulations on your first marlin. We do a lot of fishing and it is always a big deal for me
to put someone on their first marlin, it is the payoff for me to see their excitement and emotion.
We used to practice catch and release and really thought we were doing a good job of it. We study the latest information and techniques from the best
fishing charter companies in the business on how to treat a Marlin before, during and after the fight to give it the best chance on a full recovery
after the fight. I was feeling pretty good about our efforts until I read opinions like those of mtgoat666 and started to second guess our efforts,
what if all this catch and release hype was just a bunch of crap to make professional fishermen such as myself feel good about our destructive
behavior.
I am happy to report that we are leading the way to educate our friends in the Sportfishing industry about the catch and release policy embraced by
the Sportfishing industry. Thanks to contributors like the goat we have adopted a new policy on handling Marlin at the side of the boat after the
fight. Rather than releasing a fish that is sure to die we club them like a baby seal and take them to the smokehouse for processing. We are looking
for a catchy phrase similar to "catch and release" to describe our new fish handling technique. Perhaps my fellow Nomads can help come up with
something we could call it.
I would like to take a moment to thank those who risked the ridicule and scorne of their peers to bring this issue into the limelight and out of the
shadows. This whole "catch and release" nonsense has gone on long enough. I know the people at the Smokehouse as well as my Mexican neighbors are
thankful for this new fisheries management strategy. If anyone would like to have a picture of themselves standing next to a dead marlin hanging from
an A frame give me a call and I'll try to get you the fish of a lifetime.....
