Pickup truck "pocket" strakes?

I need to reduce the number of trips to move my stuff.
I thought about renting a trailer but it was too expensive and stressful to get it back to it's yard at the border.
Plus I am in Costa Mesa.

So, I decided to go verticle...

I am cheap and want it quick.

Best idea for strakes?
I will build it today or tommorrow. Probably in Home Depot's parking lot.
I only have my Big Friendly Hammer and a hand saw.
Looks like I'm nailing it together.
It doesn't need to last more than 2 trips.
I will probably take it apart when I'm done or stick in my garage and build it better for later use...

Quick and dirty!

Might want to also add some long webbed straps around the 2x4's and /or plywood to secure said load ..

They are inexpensive insurance and are sold at Home Cheapo also...

Since I've given up all hope, I feel much better

Craigslist always has lots of utility trailers for sale.

If you build rack with wood hillbilly style, make sure your fasteners can handle flexing/shaking of transport, or you will kill people when it falls apart at 70 mph on I-5 and spend rest of your life in jail for manslaughter.

Woke!

When I bought my Ranger it had a rack. I loved it!

I have straps from motocross but will strap everything.
Maybe a cargo bet across the top too.

Screw it!

Seriously, if you don't already have s battery powered impact driver, look around for one! Putting a rack together with screws would be easier, and stronger than trying to whack things together with a hammer and nails in a parking lot!

Repairs or modifications on the road would also be a lot easier, and you will need one sooner or later at your fish camp.

What they said.

Screws are superior. Plus you can easily take it apart. Love those square head and star head screws. No more Phillips head screws, and slotted head, what's that?

The screws with the square heads are the "Robertson's,"named for the inventor. He offered these to Ford Motor company decades ago, but apparently they were too complicated to make, for them. In those days Ford made everything for their cars. It took years to break into the market, but they are still gaining in popularity. A Canadian invention.

I found a hand drill in my storage yesterday so I can drill and use bolts and big flat washers.

fer cryin out loud,, go on c/l and find you a camper shell nice and secure, dry etc. etc. easy on and off with the clamps...
you can usually find a used one that fits your truck for under $100 and if you price the lumber to build goat racks on the truck even at Home cheapo you will be up to that...
