Mood: Got my little stone hut on the bay
|
|
Just the usual migration. To my stone hut on the bay south of Mulege by early October. Work on the panga. Next day Go fishing, drink Sol Clamato (my
all day boating beer), swim, buy fish so I have something to eat. Next day work on the old Yota Cruiser. Two track into the mountains or desolate
beaches, check out modern Mexican ruins and wonder why, swim (salty beach or mountain stream), supper at a grass shack beach restaurant (because I
was gone before the vendors were at my door). Next day repeat any of the above and some other stuff (none of which includes cutting grass, raking
leaves, shoveling snow, scraping windshields, commuting etc. etc. etc. Set out at night, crystal clear sparkling stars, wave to the space station as
it streaks over, listen to the drone of a 2 stroke on the pitch black moonless night water.
All that and certainly more until June or July. Take the long way heading north to fulfill the family expectations. Do some yard work to refresh the
memory. Pack in September. October, return to the little stone hut. Repeat. Simple, but satisfying.

Don't really know. May be never. Thinking of going back to the Sierra Madre in Chihuahua. Much to explore.

well son of a beach
After 40 years of planting strawberries and harvesting red bells and cucumbers every September and October in So Cal and back and forth to North
Dakota working cattle and harvesting potatoes while hunting pheasant, waterfowl and deer in the few spare moments while there.... I quit!
Closed on ND ranch July 15, so Cal farm biz is sold too and i am officially free of all contractual obligations there August 1!
Mid August headed to Bahia Asuncion to check it out with a different set of lenses this time. Then to Mag Bay and check out where to set up for the
fall season fish camp. For so many years I have wanted to fish that place in the fall. It is no secret why...
Time, health and money. The 3 dimensions might just meet in a place and time I have wanted to fish for as long as I can remember. Sale vale!
And it never failed that during the dry years the people forgot about the rich years, and during the wet years they lost all memory of the dry
years. It was always that way.― John Steinbeck

Chippy, This is the river crossing into Cerocahui.
Batopilas the hard way: Navahoa to Alamos to Cerocahui (if you can find the road)- down into Copper Canyon to Urique - over the ridge (if you can find
the road) to Batopilas then up tp Creel returning on Mex 22 & Mex16 to the coast. Absolutely spectacular country. So far five trips to the canyon
& surrounding area.
Sounds like a trip report.

Sounds like a fun route. I can´t wait to get back there. I did the El Fuerte/Choix/Tubares/Batopilas route going in and Bat/Yoquivo/Rocheachi/ to
Parral going out. Spectacular country for sure!

We tried that route in '08. Were told in no uncertain terms that those roads were at the time unsafe. We doubled back from Choix to El Fuerte and
hopped the train to Divisadero & Creel. There's a guy at the train station who will look after your truck for a small fee.

This was 2 years ago in march/april. I think it depends on when they´re growing/moving product

I had a house and boat in San Carlos, Sonora for about 10 years. Always wanted to make it down to Copper Canyon, but we never did.

Nice time to visit the Pacific side. Was thinking down a little ways past San Quintin and then a day trip to the foot hills, not sure how good the
roads are for a 2WD in that area or if it is safe but will find out!

Heading back down to Los Barriles the day after Christmas for 2 weeks I've never flown during that timeframe and boy was I blown away by the prices.
Reno to San Jose dam near 1000.00, there's got to be a cheaper way besides driving obviously.
Anyone want to share a private charter its just two of us with minimal luggage

Go on Xmas day. I didn't check, but it's generally one of the cheapest days to travel.

Already planning/buying for our annual 1/2 year in BCS, starting mid-October or so. Travel trailer style, usually someplace along Bahia Concepcion, a
stone's toss from the water. Off the grid, no cell, no Inet, solar, batteries, propane, water trucked in. Perhaps Los Cocos this year.

Heading down in November for five months. Beach camping, an RV park or two in the mix. Fully self-contained. Can’t wait!

We actually found it on the Denver Craigslist! A Swiss couple were touring the America's and the husband hurt his knee and wasn't able to drive it
anymore. We were looking for an overland vehicle after driving our previous RV, a 2004 Winnebago Vectra to Lake Chapala, MX and met two separate
German couples with big MAN vehicles. The RV was luxurious, three slides, but the it took a beating on the 'highways' on the mainland.
We bought the truck through an importer in Fayetteville, AR, he had it inspected and registered there. Drove it to our previous place in Prescott, AZ
and 23 dollars later at the DMV, had an AZ title.
The cabin is a a former German Army cargo box with a door in the back. The Swiss couple built the interior themselves, high quality in appliances, but
simple wood cabinets, bed framing, etc. The cabin was originally 13 feet long, but we sent it to a fabricator in Prescott area and they added 29 more
inches. We remodeled the interior and added a Splendide washer/dryer, a cassette toilet, a microwave, extra counter space, some more cabinets for the
electrical.
I also added two more Lifeline 4D batteries in series for 24v, for 420ah of juice. 320w of solar up on the roof, 50 gallon internal water supply,
added the black tank up front for an additional 38 gallons. Have a 230v water pump that came with the unit to transfer water to the interior tank for
when we stop at the Agua purificadas in Baja. We took the truck to Baja January 2018, and in Loreto, the pressure from the store wasn't enough to fill
the tank.
I added an additional 2000w 24v-110v inverter and additional outlets for our electrical stuff. Like the TV~! Roughing it!

I see several of those every winter in BCS. Europeans ship them over, usually to Baltimore I think, and explore the western hemisphere.
