I just saw this on Facebook and it is worthy to know:
Here is a statement released by @thejessicombs family. It sounds like she may have set the record she wanted as well.
“It is with extreme grief, and in celebration of her life that her family and close friends share that race car driver, and TV personality Jessi
Combs, passed away in a fatal crash, where she was pursuing a land speed record in the North American Eagle on August, 27th 2019 on a dry lake bed in
Oregon. The details of the crash have not been released at this time.
Jessi was known for her bright smile, positivity, and tenacious pursuit of the fulfillment of her dreams. Her drive was infectious, and she served as
a role model for young Girls, and Women around the world. People that loved her and followed her became family, all bonded together by adventure and
passion. Her fans adored her, and she lived to inspire them. Jessi’s most notable dream was to become the fastest woman on Earth, a dream she had
been chasing since 2012. Combs was one of the rare dreamers with the bravery to turn those possibilities into reality, and she left this earth driving
faster than any other woman in history.
Surrounded by her family and friends at the time of her passing, Jessi lived fearlessly, and her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched.
A celebration of Jessi’s life in being planned and a foundation is being created to continue her efforts to empower women and young girls to follow
their dreams.” RIP @thejessicombs. You will forever be missed, and remembered for the shining star you are in the automotive world and beyond!

It seems she is very well known in today's off-road racing circles. I did not know about her until Cameron told me why Recon Episode 3 wasn't being
released today. So, I went and checked to see who she was.

Very sad indeed but as the old Jimmy Buffet song goes, “It’s better to die while you’re living than live when you’re dead” and I’d say she
was living pretty well while she watched her speed top that of any woman before.

8 miles. That is a really minimal distance to go from zero to 500 MPH and back to zero. This sounds like a very expensive version of "Hey, Y'all, hold

The only reason people watch car racing is to see crashes. She apparently performed well, as a 500 mph crash should be good entertainment. It
appears they did not release video of the crash, so must be holding it back to turn a better buck, eh?

Jessi Combs—vehicle builder, racer, fabricator, TV personality, and all-around automotive legend—was killed on Tuesday in a crash while attempting
to break her own land-speed record in southeast Oregon. She was 39.
The crash occurred as Combs was piloting her jet-powered land-speed car on the Alvord Desert, a dry lake bed where several land-speed records have
been set. According to local reports, the crash happened shortly after 4pm local time.
Combs held the title of "fastest woman on four wheels" after setting a record of 398 mph in her jet-powered North American Eagle Supersonic Speed
Challenger in 2013. More recently, she had piloted that same car to 483.227 mph in a single shakedown run in October 2018, though that run ended
prematurely with mechanical troubles. (Governing bodies require two back-to-back runs in opposite directions to set an official speed record.)
Combs was a legend in the automotive world. Trained in fabrication and hot-rod building at WyoTech, she soon made her way to automotive television.
Combs was a host, builder, and technical expert on shows like Xtreme 4x4, Overhaulin', Truck U, and Two Guys Garage. She brought about Velocity
channel's All Girls Garage, and was a host and builder on a season of Discovery Channel's Mythbusters.
When not on camera, Combs competed in a wide variety of racing venues. She was the first woman to place at Ultra4's King of the Hammers; she took home
a Class 10 podium finish at the Baja 1000; and she ran in the Rallye Aicha des Gazelles, an all-women rally race. She was even the first woman to
compete in The Race of Gentlemen, racing a twin-engine 1913 Ford Model T.
Combs joined the North American Eagle Supersonic Speed Challenger team as driver in 2013. Her goal was to pilot the car (built from a decommissioned
fighter jet) beyond 512 mph, the record for Fastest Woman on Earth, set in 1976 by Kitty O'Neil.

thats not true, race fans are only looking for good close racing, this was a remarkable woman. shame on you and this vgabndo fellow!
