Mexican Music
It can be the worst, and it can be the best.
Just saw this on Facebook.
Jose Jose died today. One of the best.

Who is your favorite Mexican/Hispanic musician/group? Besides Carlos Santana (from TJ), we all know he's great.

Does Freddy Fender count? Some of his lyrics are in Spanish...how about Los Lonely Boys?
Sorry, I just can't think of any Mexican pop stars right now.

Sat next to Freddy Fender on a flight to San Antonio from L.A. back in the mid-90s. Very young (Mexican) girls on the plane were getting autographs
from him... all speaking Spanish with him.
He and a chatted a bit and I got an autograph, too.

Last weekend I went to the ever classic La Paloma Theater in town [Encinitas] and watched the Linda Ronstadt documentary.
I am more in love with her music than ever. From the beginning she had the moxie to demand that her career not be mismanaged by others and she
plotted her own choices.
Canciones De Mi Padre applies here, but all of her music showed what a powerful self image she projected from early on. Just listen to the lyrics of
Different Drummer from her Stone Ponies days.
When she was on stage, she was an irrepressibly powerful singer.
The last scene was filmed this year. Her courage remains irrepressible to this day. She is/was a female empowering presence, always.
She even sang along for a few all too short refrains. What a girl! Gotta love her.

Andrea Bocelli
Seriously, even the best type of "norteño" - if you consider Los Pikadents the best - have more to do with a national identity thing than art or
talent.

Get to see Los Lobos again on the Blues Cruise, sailing out of San Diego late Oct.. They are great and when they bring up other players, it can be
unforgettable. 7 days at sea with 25 or so bands!!

I've recently discovered Juan Wauters, a Mexican currently living in Queens, NY. https://youtu.be/j3oinl1g4SM is a traditional, accordion-driven ballad.

Given the many genres of music and numerous musicians,... this is a a silly, pointless question. Pick a single genre, and then ask for favorites!
Woke!

Los Muecas lead singer Artemio lives in the mountains of northern Baja. Very gracious host at his cabin and has other cabins for rent.

At work I had soft music piped in to the work area and warehouse via dish. It was also on the phone system when on hold. Well, when we worked on
Saturdays I would come in and find my Mexican guys (only two of my work force) had changed to a Mexican channel. Absolutely the worst stuff I have
ever heard; and I would suffer through it all day. I do miss those guys though.

Thanks. Listened to them all briefly on Youtube. If I had to pick one, I'd pick Natalia.
