I wish the lady could learn to drive it but since she does not even know how to drive. Putting her on a 700 would not be good learn to drive machine. The Polaris SXS 800 she can already drive nice auto tame. In the reliability department the Yamaha YXZ light years ahead of Polaris. Pros YXZ manual trans Cons lady has learn manual trans. Looking for stock 17 YXZ 1000

I believe those yamahas have a sequential transmission. Shifting is all either forward or back.

Why no belt drive? 1500 miles on my stock belt in my 1K with no problems. I had over 2K on my 800 without a belt issue. Biggest killer is running in high gear when you should be in low. Just curious, because it seems like it really limits your options.

Here is why the borrowed razor I have right now. I do like it except. When you take off slight delay in belt engagement. Also when in high going down steep hill it freewheels. There is nothing wrong with this one . They all do it just I like to be in control not the sxs making me control it. As far as few thousand miles in drive belt. That is not a selling point for me as a cultch can last 20 years. One other point Yamaha v Polaris in every other off road ride. The Yamaha number one in reliable. Still your maybe right there 2/ 800 razors in town for only 5 grand. My other friend in Baja wants 12000 for his 1000 razor 2014. I have found some as new 2017 yxzs for same amount . They are in AZ so have friends coming from Utah and Az at end of month . They may bring me one .

Good points, they are all fun and will get the job done as you said. I can't wait to get mine down to Baja for some amazing riding. Looks like we are headed down in March on our big bikes, I'll give you a heads up and maybe we can catch up over dinner?

Please do that are your big bikes road or dirt? I'm always ready to trail ride. Maybe even sxs if she lets me drive it. Just found out two types yxz. One you cultch to shift. Other paddle shifters on steering wheel . No clutch so for my sake I get that one for her.

W ride plenty of dirt on them, they are big KTM 990's but they do just fine in the sand and dirt if you ride them hard. We will probably shot for Cal's for our first night, I'll keep you posted on what's app...

En su suenos.... ;) that's what BB riders want to think in Baja, when they really wish for a newer orange 500 or smaller...

I suppose it depends on type of road/trail/track....but after several gs1100 trips to Baja, I realized 20 years ago I needed a real dirtbike. My '04 450 EXC is my first choice for Baja fun, 690 is second,. and I see little value of BB's in Baja unless it's the only ride you have.

I learned a long time ago ads for BB "adventure" seriously mislead riders regarding bike capabilities....watch some Chris Birch vids promoting big katooms with a close eye and you will see edits where he loses it....but no Nomads ride at his skill level.

Don't believe everything you think....

All bikes have there place and no place. On the hard stuff tight slow steep. I will take my 250 over my 450 any day. As too hard to push the 450:D

motoged, I couldn't agree more about the 500, it's my bike of choice for baja single track. The 990 is good for putting down miles on the slab and the dirt two track. I've ridden it on some of the good single track and plenty of deep sand but that isn't my first choice.
75-80 for hours in the 990 is enjoyable, two hours at 60 on the 500 is the start to a long day. Big bikes make for a more relaxed sight seeing trip vs a back country, single track carving, remote riding kind of trip.
