Followed the usual route until just past El Gato. Then we found we found a heavily used track which we followed. It is a good track with some
maintenance, and it bypasses the traditional track to La Trinidad. It intersects the traditional coast road and saves about 8 miles and a lot of rock
crawling. We then proceeded to the first Playa to camp. This camp is 70 miles from the San Ignacio PMEX. The next day we drove passed the property
boundary at the division between N and S Baja. There were several big new signs telling you not to proceed. Next, we kept driving up the coast to the
turnaround at the substantial locked gate with more intimidating signs. 84 miles from Ignacio PMEX.
As we traveled east from El Gato the first deviation from the traditional track was when we bypassed the old track sand area. After that bypass a good
2wd road was followed.

I expected the "shortcut" road to be put in sooner or later
it is in Arroyo La Palmita
there always was a well established trail in this canyon
possibly from missionary times
I have driven it years ago
glad to see it to be "official now"

Rancho El Triunfo is one of the many Boleo cattle ranchos
most ranchos from the missionary times have christian names (like Santa Marta)
most ranchos from the early settlement period starting around 1820 have hopeful, prosperous names (like La Fortuna)
all newly founded Boleo ranchos around 1900 (about 50) follow that pattern
however some of the older ranchos they "adopted" kept their christian names (like El Rosarito and San Carlos in the area)

I spent a good week or two researching the No Wimps trail a year ago. Really wanted to ride it in 2019, but we didn't make it. Because of the locked
gates I had planned to do it from the South as Paul did.
Harold had already told me about the La Palmita short-cut, but he suggested it was bike only. Fantastic to hear it is good for a truck. That
eliminates the hardest part of the trip (unless you want to run through the wash to have fun).
I compared Paul's way points to mine and they were spot on.
Here is the entire area that I have.

Here's a spot that has intrigued me for the last year or so. Haven't seen anyone talk about it, and I haven't worked out the full trail to it yet.
Has anyone been out to the lake bed near El Gato? 27.832763° -112.948953°
It looks like it would be fun as hell to rip down it. Very well flanked by mountains.

sure - you take the old Boleo roadbed first (not easy)
and then there will be truck track going to Laguna El Gato
the track you proposed (close to or in Arroyo El Gato) works too when you start at Rancho El Gato
there used to be a Boleo track from Cerro El Piojo that is shorter, but the first 1/3 is washed out and hard to find

For anyone going in from the south - I highly recommend driving up Arroyo San Juan
A waterfall will eventually stop you
