Hotel/motel between San Felipe and Guerrero Negro?
Going from Borrego Springs to Loreto I usually don't go highway 5 route but I might in April.
For the first night I would like to get further than San Felipe but don't want to go all the way to G.N.
Any suggestions for just an overnight stay before heading to Loreto that won't break the bank?
I have camped in Gonzaga Bay but never have stayed in a motel. I have heard good and bad on this forum about Alfonsia's, what is the latest about
that place and others?
The Gonzaga Bay area seems like around the right distance I would like to go the first day.
In case I get a late start and don't want to go past S.F. what side of S.F. is the Sand Dollar and is it on the highway? Any decent restaurants near
by?

Alfonsia's location is perfect. Really great spot on the beach.
The room itself is priced ok, $85 for two. They want you to also pay to eat there (i.e. an all inclusive price). $30/person for that. Don't think
there is an option to wave this?
Includes three meals. Might work for 1 or 2 people.
But we pass through with 5, and aren't going to sit around the hotel all day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Accommodations Between San Felipe and Guerrero Negro:
Off Hwy. 5:
Punta Bufeo Resort is 1.4 miles off the highway at Km. 135.5
Alfonsina's Resort is 1.8 miles from Km. 147.
El Sacrificio is 4.1 miles from Km. 149+
On Hwy. 1:
There's the Hotel Cactus in Nuevo Rosarito (Km. 52)
The Hotel Villa del Mar in Villa Jesus María (Km. 95.5)
The Halfway Inn is at the Eagle Monument (Km. 127), just 2+ miles north of Guerrero Negro.

We have been doing 5 the last three years. We have only been driving one time a year for the last 5 years. Our Oct. - Nov. trip. We get into San
Felipe around 6:00 pm after a 3:30 am start. That’s a hour north of Sacramento start point.
We usually get going about 6:30 am heading to Loreto. We lose a hour crossing the state line and get into our casa around 6:30 pm. That’s not
stopping at Lay’s in town.

Hola Howard, I, personally, would avoid Alphonsina’s like the Corona virus. Reserved 2 rooms there a few years back, when we showed up (3 persons,
two vehicles) they at first denied that we had reservations (which were done via the internet and confirmed by them), then they said they could
accommodate us but only with one room. The room did not have any electrical outlets, hence I couldn’t use my CPAP machine. The room had two double
beds, so Shelley and Suzanne (our neighbor from Bahía Asunción) shared the room and I slept in my pickup. They charged $100 US for the room and the
AC was not turned on until about 8 PM. Never again for this gringo. BTW, how is Gringo the dingo?
Two dirt roads diverged in Baja and I, I took the one less graveled by......

OK, if for no other reason other than principal, I will not stay at Alfonsinas.

Alfonsina's is a destination rather than a motor inn. There is still no excuse for not honoring a reservation. What Gonzaga Bay needs is competition.
It won't be long now the Hwy. 5 is completed.

bufeo at Gonzaga.. not fancy.. water drizzles out of shower.. good food a mile down the beach at La Poloma (his brothers place). 25 bucs for 2 beds
on our last trip. I'll take the wife and kids to Alphonsinas…. but with the guys we don't stay there anymore.
The Cactus at Nuevo Rosarito… decent room... great showers.. great food next door .. also 25 bucs on last trip. 2 hours passed Gonzaga.

I must have got the same room and now fixed that by carrying an adapter that screws into the lightbulb, the light bulb into that and a 25' extension
cord.

I wouldn't give up on Alfonsina's based on one person's bad experience.
It costs more than it did. And it's not quite as charming as it was in the past.
But the place is still super nice, and that spot on the beach is really, really awesome.

We have decided to just go hwy 1 if our schedule has us staying the night north of Guerrero Negro.
We have not had good luck with SF hotels. Alfonsinas is fine if they don't screw up your reservation...no options if they do, which happens...
Hwy 1 has awesome hotels in Colonet, San Quintin & El Rosario & Catavina
We like the drive on hwy 5 much better but the hotels/restaurants are not so good/reliable

I’ve stayed Villas San Quin and it was fine. Always stay Jardines and breakfast next morning at Mamas in El Rosar.
SanDollar in SF is fine but not special at $110/night.
Stayed Casa La Vida, $150/night, recently and it was great. Smart TV all premium channels I didn’t watch, great bed, sheets. Would stay again.

How many people have to get scammed out of a reservation and deposit before believing Alfonsinos is not reputable. Long drive back to SF.

Last time I passed through, I was told that alfonsinas had no available rooms for over 2+months out.
View is great. Restaurant is good. Rooms are meh.

Another broad casting of the net. We're (reluctantly) heading back to the frozen north (Flagstaff) from La Paz next month and have 7 days with two of
those nights to be spent in spent in Valle de Guadalupe. We would also like to use 5 as our main artery and are wondering if you guys have specific
spots along this route other than the aforementioned places, which I'm researching as we type?

The access is via Rancho Percebu, Km. 20.8. Unless they improved a more direct road in. Last report it was very sandy, from Km. 17.
