4x4 Camping trip - Ciudad Constitucion to San Evaristo to La Paz
My wife and i have been daydreaming about this 4x4 route from Ciudad Constitucion across the Sierra Giganta mountains to the sea of cortez since last
year, ~200 miles of dirt!! Big thanks to JZ and 4x4abc for sharing their route info
When we heard our fellow traveler friends wanted to put their new 4x4 rig to the test we had finally found some suckers to go with us!
This thing is way too shiny and no pinstripes... time to fix that
We loaded up our 4x4 Ranger with our camping gear, threw a mattress in the topper and hit the road towards Constitucion, a final fuel up and resupply
and we soon hit the dirt road towards San Luis Gonzaga
We were cruising along on the fairly nice dirt road when BOOM! Pulled over and our friends learned quick that when you roll with us you never know
what to expect, within 30 minutes of hitting the dirt road we blown a tire out! oh well time for some drinkies, mixed up some c-cktails, and threw on
the spare
It was getting late so we quickly found a camp and setup shop, Unfortunately it was also full of thorns, our friend Sarah got tagged by a scorpion,
our friend Nate almost broke his ankle, we broke our tailgate, and and got some wicked hangovers, that was just within the first 24 hours! Haha
welcome to the chit!
Next day we limped back into town, threw 4 new Chinese all-terrains on the truck, had a great lunch, bought some more booze, and tried again.
This time we made it about 1/2 way across the mountains and found a beautiful poke free camp surrounded by buttes and serene desert.
road was pretty easy going to to this point but got a bit more gnarly as we started gaining elevation, lots of steep loose scree, little 4Lo action,
good times! Real glad we bought new tires as this stuff was pretty sharp!
After a few more hours of driving and beautiful vistas successfully crossed the Sierras and dropped down into the gorgeous bay of San Evaristo
celebrated our journey with fish tacos and pacifos at Lupe Sierras and Maggies taco stand in san evaristo, great spot!
After filling up on tacos we drove further south down the dirt road towards la paz, as the sun sank low we made camp on a huge cove we had all to
ourselves. Picture perfect night with tons of stars over the bay and great friends around the campfire.
We continued further south the next day, following the snaking dirt road along the coast for most of the way
We made one more camp out in the desert, killed the last of our booze and settled in for the night
Next day we were all out of supplies and covered in dirt, time for a shower!! We hit the pavement near La Paz, turned north and headed home, What took
us 4 days to cover via the 4x4 route, took us only 4 hours via the highway, mission accomplished, a successful trip and one for the books!! Let’s do
another one!

Excellent pics. Living life.
Not sure if you went out to the islands? There is a guy that will take you out to San Francisco and San Jose cheap. The island bays are some of the
most beautiful in the entire SoC.

I did that route a couple of years ago in my old Explorer. A great drive through the mountains and the coast road south to La Paz also great. Always
wanted to motorcycle it but I'm afraid that due to age my window of opportunity on that has closed.

Tried to do that route a week ago in my pathfinder. An hour in a nice local told me my car is too low and won’t make it. We turned around. I’m
getting bigger tires for next time.

bet you coulda made it!
i ran into a mexican mom from la paz in an izuzu amigo, she was taking her kid camping out there on the trail, she was badass!
