Border closure extended

DHS Statement Here.

There is no date but in the news I've read "... for another month".

Probably applies to ground crossings only, same as the previous one.

I have never traveled in Baja between mid May to mid September, but that was my plan this year. My plan to spend a few months in Alaska prior to the trip was also scrubbed by the Covid19 situation.

Regardless of what the border and airport restrictions are, my time to hit the road will be based on real time reports from people who are living where I intend to visit!

The number one contact will be e-mail exchanges with my dentist. She will tell me when she is accepting non-emergency patients again, and give me an idea if tourists are relatively safe, and welcome there.

Social distancing and a mask is not a reality with dental work!

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

I have a lady dentist (for almost 20 years), she is open now, is very good, does all procedures, and accepts insurance... in Vista CA, not Baja, however.

It is our favorite time, too!
Who wants to be cold on their vacation???
Another nice part about summer in Baja, is that the weak people who fear heat are not there and you have far more private camping opportunities!

Five years living at Tahoe, thirty five years in Anchorage....what does that say about my heat tolerance? I really want to see if I can stand a Baja summer (outside an airconditioned hideout) before I decide if I want to get a place down there!

Is that British Columbia, or Baja California?

If you stay on the pacific side it's not a problem. Summer Time is Pacific Time.

Social distancing and a mask is not a reality with dental work!

Dentist resuming her work is a very subjective indication of safety during the epidemic. If coronavirus in Mexico doesn't go away soon - and it looks like it doesn't - she'll have to make choice between personal finance and personal health. For many people health is not their main concern. This changes when they get sick.

Not sure what they are saying since everyone seems to be coming and going across the border both ways as usual?

Who are these “everyones” you say are coming and going? Mexican Friends from Ensenada Have not yet been able to travel up to visit us in San Diego for several months. They got 10-yr tourist visas, and USA brown shirts won’t let them in as their visas fit the definition of non-essential travel...

Just because gringos are taking advantage of Mexico’s low enforcement does not meaN everyone is having A hunky dory time

Definition of subtle bigotry or cluelessness (same same) is assuming your experience of gringo privilege extends to mexican’s experience of the border.

We went to Vizcaino to see my dentist for a crown, it was warm but not hot. La Bocana is the coldest in June and July. The only month one can go swimming in the ocean with ease in August/September. Of course, that is when fishing takes off too.

My system can not deal with the heat at all. I become lethargic. That being said, I ignored that lethargy last year when we were in Greece and they were having one of the hottest summers ever! I walked around Athens as if there were no tomorrow Hahahaha

But I remember the huge fans with mist coming out in the restaurant district of the tourist part of town. Delightful and Les was able to sit at an outside table and relax while yours truly walked, and walked, and walked some more!

It makes sense that travel would be restricted so that foreigners would not unnecessarily bring the virus over. It is the same thought here in town where they really would rather tourist not come. Even though we can, we are going to wait a while before we reopen our hotel.

Goat, I think most of us assume we are talking about gringoes here since the site is called baja nomad. The Mexicans are not nomadic, but we sure are!

Come visit La Bocana

And always remember, life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by those moments that take our breath away.

Mtgoat has nailed it, Mexican border agents don't do their job. Nothing new. I suspect they don't even know about this 3-lateral agreement. Don't read the memos - or there were no memos.
