Cruise Port Proposal at Pichilingue? Austerity? Timing?
Though there has been talk of austerity measures in Mexico, some big ideas keep coming along. Cruise lines are not exactly booming.
This wouldn't be surprising from Fonatur (funny tour), however it's from API.
"Proposals will be opened Nov. 6, with a public evaluation to take place Nov. 9 and a decision expected Nov. 11."
A rather short period for public evaluation?
Looks like La Paz may get busier if this happens. Hmmmm ?
Maybe they'll drop a few thousand passengers at Balandra for a "deserted beach experience"- it's close ?

I enjoyed alaska and euro river cruises. Never done one to hot weather area, has never appealed to me.
La paz aint too interesting... not sure why someone would want to take a cruise to la paz.

What terrible timing.
Still, the tourists wouldnt have far to go by some means of shuttle to the beaches at Balandra and Tecolote. The new malecon to walk along the bay.
Sportfishing and sightseeing trips around Espiritu Santo.
La Paz has more going for it than many cruise ship destinations.
Hey, if Tombstone AZ can play up their gunfight history, maybe La Paz can have tours of neighborhoods where REAL CARTEL SHOOTOUTS have occurred.
Actually, they could have a chance at the real thing. What selfies THAT would make!!!

La Paz is and always has been just a little off the mainline tourism map. Traditionally it has been the center of government not an international
playground. The reasons are simple. The waters of the bay do not circulate. It has been used for La Paz's toilet. The waters are not attractive for
immersion. Some might say fetid. Access to sportfishing is poor in comparison to the Los Cabos area. It does not make ecological sense to motor for
hours to waters that are accessible in minutes. The truth is that cruise ships are not a panacea. Just ask the people of St. Kitts or St. Maarten. La
Paz is at a tipping point, the current gov't is hell bent to throw up multistory condos for the rich. We shall see how the "Cabofacation" of La Paz
develops. Nothing going on here folks, move along.
Every beautiful beach in the world needs a few condo towers - NOT.

I think La Paz is a very interesting city, but it would be far to bring people from Pichilingue all the way to town, wouldn't it?
