I used to live a few miles down the road from Emerald Bay (top photo) and I never saw that many boats there before! Beautiful place, and there is
neat little stone building on the top of the island.
Did you take 89 around to Truckee on your way north, or go back over to 395 through Reno?
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

Yeah, Burney Falls.
We took 89N all the way. What a spectacular drive. Right through Lassen NP, pass Burney, and on to Mount Shasta.
Beautiful forest and canyons. At the end the road aims right at the peak of Mt. Shasta. You can see it over the very tall trees.
On to Crater Lake today.

Tahoe was ridiculously crowded.
Lassen NP was pretty crowded. Camp grounds were open. Lots of ppl camping.

A little Tahoe trivia
Pre world war two, my dad worked for Standard Oil. There was a railroad line from Truckee to a spot near Tahoe city, and his job was to transport
products from there to the South Shore by barge!
Up until at least the late 70s, there was also a Coast Guard station on Tahoe.
Edit; I just checked, and there is still a coast guard base at Tahoe. I thought it was closed down, but if so, it re-opened. What an assignment!

Tahoe was ruined by the crowds.
It is no longer a fun place on a crowded day....
It’s not a wilderness experience if you got all-day-long traffic jams...

Weird that you bring this up. My kid mentioned the Coast Guard being in Tahoe yesterday when we were driving.
