Customs at SJD airport

I'm flying into SJD in a couple of weeks and I plan on taking a thank-you gift along with me to give to the Mexican-Native who allows me to store my vehicle with him. I normally don't have much concern for most items I take down. But this time I plan to take a deskjet all-in-one. Hence it's bigger then my luggage and I'm wondering just what I might expect from the local customs man.

Take it out of original box, put in new box, and make it look like nothing...Highly unlikely you will be flagged at the red light...if you do, it is a donation to what charitable organization?

When you get off the plane, you go thru imigration and customs - they are the people to see. Just tell them it's new and a gift for a friend and how much it cost and they will tell you how to pay duty and how much.

I have tried that method and the end process (read headache) drove me to the suggested method above. Was not about the few dollars in duty..
