Sanitary Filters

Just read somewhere on the web. Effective October 28th, Mexicali is setting up Sanitary Filters at the border, throughout the city, to verify travelers are there for essential reasons.

Anyone have any knowledge on this?

From a Mexicali newspaper "El Imparcial"
Yes, as of yesterday the mayor of Mexicali Marina del Pilar Avila declared that starting today around the city and at the border in order to make sure that whomever is on transit is doing it for "essential reasons"

Sanitary Filter - Guerrero Negro: We were asked where we lived/were coming from. Replied, Perm residents, then another person came over and we had our temperatures taken. This was crossing from North to South. No sanitary filter going back the other way.

Paulina, I came through there Saturday morning. I was driving a California plated car, and told them that I was coming from California Norte, going to La Paz, and they waved me through after a temperature check and sprayed the vehicle.

At the last checkpoint before La Paz, the soldiers asked the usual questions, then before they waved me on, a Federale came over and asked if it was vacation, and I told it was medical, for dental work. (both sides of the conversation in Spanglish)

I was not wearing a mask, but held it up and offered to put it on, but they waved it off and chose to keep about ten feet social distance.

I had no problems anywhere.

No problems for us either. We were both wearing masks as was the inspector. Since you mentioned it, our vehicle wasn't sprayed.

Did they collect the twenty pesos? They did from me, and gave me a receipt!

At that inspection, I did put on a mask before I drove up. It was at the one before Centennario that I did not need to put it on.

Imperial County is the epicenter for the virus in CA. Not looking too good for Mexicali.

The subject of gringoes getting sick SOB, unable to get treatment, and trying to go NOB has been brought up. Anyone have an opinion on how that might play out?

Thanks for the responses. We don't head back down to SJD until the end of December, maybe it will be better by then. We're not permanent residents so will just flash my Fideicomiso.

You mean Mexican sanitary filters would prevent some gringo sick with Covid from getting home? :)... My "opinion" is - not likely, didn't happen before, and this is not what I would worry about.

OTH, getting sick far away from the border can be a problem. Symptoms can be sudden, now you are fine and one hour later you can't breathe, and it's a 2 days drive to San Diego.
