After agonizing over the decision for way too many hours, I won't be making a trip down over Christmas. Haven't skipped a year since Christmas 2007,
and I am really, really going to miss my favorite rituals of camping out in the desert on the solstice and paddling a kayak around the beautiful fishy
waters of BCS.
Tipping point for me was hearing dependable reports that one of my favorite beaches was closed to camping, as is Isla Carmen, where I like to paddle
out and camp overnight. If those spots are closed, I figure there's a decent chance my other favorite spots are or will be soon.
I'm convinced I could do all the usual activities (camping and paddling alone) quite safely, taking extra care to mask up and distance when
provisioning at small stores, but if the authorities disagree, well -- good luck arguing with them, right? Enforcing in-vehicle masking suggests to
me that the authorities are becoming prone to overdo it a bit, and you can't argue with that either in the land of the tope. 
Also, when the state you're coming from has just had two days with around 50K new cases each, maybe you ought to stay put. Yup.

I think you did the right thing. I have a home in BCS that I will not see this year. I was there almost 6 months last year. If you do not need to go,
don't. Next year will be better for us all.

What I have read from the wire services is that 70% of the population has to be inoculated in order for the COVID-19 cases to start diminishing. They
were citing John Hopkins studies.
BTW, Ensenada does have a lot of cases of COVID, but they are being attended to. Much of the city's citizens are wearing masks, although not covering
their noses. I personally know of 5 friends that have had it and recovered (living in Baja, but went for treatment in the US). One is still having
mental problems (disorientation, dates, lots of forgetfulness, etc.) two months after the COVID treatment.

Yesterday there was a post on a ex-pats page for Ensenada and someone was asking if it was ok for him and his family to come to Ensenada for a short
visit. I replied STAY HOME. I got a lot of flack for that post with people calling me ""Karen" and one guy even said "You must remember all of those
in poverty that depend on the tourist dollar and how 20 million Mexicans will lose their jobs Blah, Blah, Blah...
I guess so many just don't get it! The only way to stop the spread is to not go on small vacations and gathering for the holidays with family and
friends should not happen this year.
There are those who must work and I get it.
I just read that at the Mexicali General Hospital is so full of virus patients the powers that be decided to convert their parking lot to ICU wards
because there is no other place to put those infected.
My son is a physician in Hermosillo and that general hospital is full and they can't take anymore! My son had the virus and he recovered.
Just received word from family and friends that are now infected. Every day there are more and more. I'm not exaggerating.
This virus is out of control here in Ensenada.
Please have a good Christmas and PLEASE stay at home so either you won't infect others or you yourself won't become a victim.

I feel this.
I made one post, several months ago, on the Facebook group Talk Baja, simply asking how Mexican citizens living in Baja feel about tourists visiting
during the pandemic and I was instantly attacked. (I live on a small island in Canada that depends a great deal on tourism and the locals did NOT want
tourists this year, despite the economic hardship). I was not prepared for the level of anger and hate. I've avoided that group ever since.
I would LOVE to be in Baja right now. I'd love to be fishing, visiting friends, bringing some school goodies to Blanca, etc., but I want this virus
under control, so I'm staying home in the cold and wet and dark. (I attended my first virtual memorial last week, for a friend in California that died
from Covid. Sobering and surreal.)
There must be ways that folks can help from afar. I'd be happy to share links people can donate to online to help out organizations in Baja.
