Alondra has an internship!
Alondra is majoring in Industrial Engineering and this, the last semester, (9th) means internship time.
She applied for and got accepted at our local fishing cooperative and will cycle through all the departments. She is a real go getter and I bet you
anything they hire her on when she finishes in 6 months. I am thrilled to pieces - they offer health insurance, salaried position, retirement and
paid vacations. They work you like a DOG but your job is yours forever unless you really, really blow it (drugs, for example).
While she was a freshman in college, her grandmother died and Alondra had a very hard time dealing with it. In her sophomore year, her dad died. She
had matured a lot more by then and actually pulled through it much better. She told me she had to be strong for her Mom.
I thought she might drop out but she looked me in the eye and said " I promised my Dad that I would make you, my sponsors and my Dad proud by
graduating and I will graduate."
Here she is in extra calculus classes we paid for while she was in high school. I was MOST UNPOPULAR when I insisted she participate, but our kids
are not prepared enough for the advanced college calculus for engineers. She is the one in the middle. We are so lucky that Alfredo who owns a
hardware store in Abreojos used to teach college calculus. He really works the students so that they are totally prepared for college.

Here she is in 2021 at her internship! Armando, her boss, is standing behind her. He once sponsored a roasted pig lunch for the scholarship
students. To this day I can remember their amazement when they saw what was for lunch! Armando is the main accountant for the La Bocana fishing
cooperative.

I just remembered that we sponsored her internet a couple years ago, remember?
Her Mom took over the pastor spot Alondra's dad had so they live in the temple house but they own the lot behind our house. I am guessing that we
will be neighbors one day!

Such a thrill to see your investment in your students pay off. Good for you! And even better for them!
I had a miserable time with Calculus when I took it up in high school, but a light clicked on when a college professor tried to explain it simply:
Calculus is the math of change, and everything changes. Who doesn't want to understand how things change?

Never took calculus, but Math was my nightmare from day 1 until a tutor also explained it in simple, very simple ways.
I studied so hard because to get a teaching degree valid for California, I had to take both an English and a Math exam to teach English as a Foreign
language.
I passed! The magic of a good teacher !!
Alondra used one of your donated laptops for a couple years, Paul. When it fizzled, she got another one donated by Chippy. Thanks so much.

As an engineer, I had to take calculus. I have used it exactly once in my 38 years as a software engineer.
I'm thrilled that the laptop got plenty of usage and that it benefited a good student!
