El Chaparral South into Tijuana open on Wednesday 4/21

The new inspection station gates on the USA side was open yesterday. Traffic was quite backed up. Didn't see anyone stopped. Possibly looking for someone specific? Otherwise fine.

Would appreciate knowing if they continue to operate. Want to plan for possible delays.

There is no schedule for these southbound inspection operations. That would defeat the CPB's element of surprise for people crossing South with firearms and/or large amounts of currency. They have been happening sporadically with no warning for at least the last 15 years to my knowledge. I've seen interstate 5 traffic backed up well beyond the 905 interchange.

Though I have been back and forth living here for almost eight years now - I've only seen that once. But... you are right I have a couple times seen them standing in the road, before the station there was built. So... no big deal then.

Gracias!

Seems like a huge expense to build all that and not use it regularly - which is what I thought they were going to do.
