Wanted- 10 HP 4 stroke boat motor


9-15 HP for use as a kicker to get me home if need be. Long shaft and in good running condition.

In a perfect la la world it would be located in or near Loreto

We have a 10hp Yamaha for our Zodiac.

The ability to handle a 10hp vs. a 15hp is night and day. If you are going to be moving it around a good bit, this might be one consideration.

Back in the day I bought a 15hp and promptly took it back. My eyes were bigger than my stomach.

I'm looking for a backup engine too. There is a 9.8 Tohatsu available in Mulege. It's on the Facebook Marketplace.

I had a 9.8hp 2-stroke Tohatsu for years. Loved it. A good 10-15 pounds lighter than a 4-stroke. That 10 pounds made carrying it around a lot easier. And it was just as powerful as the 4-stroke.

Some a##hole stole it off my boat.

I just checked the specs and prices on the new Suzuki 4 stroke small outboards

9.9 hp - 327 cc, 97 pounds, $2315
15 hp - 327 cc, 108 pounds, $2790
20 hp - 327 cc, 108 pounds, $3090

I don't get it. All three are essentially the same motors (at least in displacement) but have significant differences in power and price.

What's going on? Is this a sales gimmick?

Assuming the engine is in good working order, that looks like a pretty good deal and not far from Loreto.

Yup, the only difference between the 3 engines is the ECU (computer) and the amount of air being let into the fuel injection system. Weight difference is short shaft vs. long shaft. My 20hp short shaft Zuk was 97 lbs also.

Awaiting Goat's recommendation for a 10 hp, non IC engine. Something with 100 lbs of Li-on battery...........and a sail for when the wind is against you, coming home, and your battery is drained. :biggrin:

Spot on Moto! No experience with the 9 but bought a 2013 20 with less than 100 hours on it. Don't know of anyone that uses a portable engine harder or more than I do but I sold it about 6 months ago with over 4000 hours on it. Still in the pueblo here and still being used regularly. I replaced it with the 2019 version of the same engine.
