I saw this this morning, and I like the concept! For maintaining my property, and one or two trips a year to Baja, I think it would fill my needs.

From what I have found on line, the drive train I would need comes only with the deluxe models and would almost double the price!

No 4WD, or did I miss that?

It comes in 4x4, or I would not even consider it! I also wuld noot be interested if it shares the suspension used in the Ford Escape.

I have watched a couple of other reports, and promotions from Ford, and it appears that this is indeed more SUV than truck.

The 2wd version is front wheel drive, and I can find nothing mentioning a low range option in the 4wd version. I look forward to checking one out when they actually arrive in the showrooms, but I doubt that it would be a good candidate for going with oversize tires or even modest off road mods.

And the 40 mpg is a sham. It does not make those 40 mls w/ only the motor. It makes 40 miles on average including those miles you pay for the power charged at home. But you pay for either way.

The minitruck/SUV sale have done well in Baja. There must be at least 6 types that I see in Ensenada all the time.

Dodge Ram 700

Mexico is one of the countries that sells the Ram 700. It is an interesting little crossover/truck, but the Maverick size is more appealing to me.

Besides that, the little Ram does not appear to offer a 4x4 version, and it is made by Fiat, which has a low rating for reliability!

The Hyundai Santa Cruz is another new entry in the small "truck" lineup.

Bring back the Subaru BRAT!
Both small and light, plus 4WD!

The Subaru Baja had a great name, but only had AWD.

Here's a comparison between the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz.

https://www.autoblog.com/2021/06/08/2022-ford-maverick-hyund...

Being a tailer boat owner, I found this interesting:

"Towing is one area where the Santa Cruz has a clear-cut advantage. The base model can tow up to 3,500 pounds, and the turbo version can handle 5,000 pounds. The hybrid Maverick only tows up to 2,000 pounds, and the turbo one can pull 4,000 pounds."

Also, I own a base model 2019 Hyundai Sante Fe SUV and am thoroughly happy with it. No complaints whatsoever. I think the Koreans are making good cars.

I learned from a news item this morning that the Maverick is being manufactured at Ford's plant in Hermosillo, MX!

I sure would love to play with one of the new mini trucks, but I suspect I will wind up with a midsize, like the Ranger, or a Colorado.

Ford tease about an electric Maverick

I found this article a little while ago about a possible full electric Maverick; https://electrek.co/2021/06/08/ford-hints-cheaper-smaller-el...

Per Ford:
AWD is available but not hybrid. You have get the 4 cyl turbo and it will have a regular auto trans, not a CVT trans. That happened because the electric motor has not yet been adapted to the CVT.
All Mavericks are crew cab and the 4 cyl turbos is available with a highest tow capability.
My comment.
This rig will set off a new category of vehicles with all manufacturers jumping into the lowest price pickup category.
