FMM Costs?

SWMBO asked me to get her FMM online for our weekend trip to the wine valley. I logged on to Mexico's web portal, filled out the info: when, how long and where. Cost was $99 'merican. Does it really cost $100 to visit Mexico for few days 75 miles SOB? Or is this a function of using the on-line system? I can't see a family of 5 dropping $500 to go play on the beach in Rosarito.

I got mine at the border, and if I remember correctly, it was five hundred pesos. About twenty five dollars!

Perhaps you were not on the right website.
The internet is full of scam resellers.

Even if you get it on line, you will need to get it stamped at the border by the same agent that could issue one. I thought you were residente permanente, so do you need one?

THIS! Plus, if you buy one in advance, you must indicate the day and the crossing you will use. If conditions alter the day you cross or which border you cross at, the pre-paid one is void! No refund.
Just buy it at the border when you cross... at the same desk where you have to take a pre-paid one to get it stamped and validated.

That makes sense, I haven't needed a FMM in so long I've lost track of the issues/cost. And yes, it was the www.mexicofmm.com web site.

On 02 June I crossed at San Isidro. Went into the immigration office where there was nobody in line and one pleasant young woman on duty. I gave her my passport card and she filled out the FMM form completely. I had only to sign it. There was a card terminal for payment and within about two minutes another young woman walked over from the bank office with the receipt. It was the most efficient transaction I have had in my almost 50 years of border crossings. My account was charged $29.95 and the FMM was for 180 days.

Santiago, 7 days or less is free BUT (according to the agent in Mexicali) you must fill out the paperwork online, they only issue 180 day FMMs in the office. Yes, even for the free one you must stop and get it stamped, but it’s super quick and easy. So if you want a free one you must fill out the info online. Also, it’s 7 days/6 nights free so if you are trying to get an FMM from Friday to Friday they will charge you because that’s 7 nights. Hope that all makes sense.

If you print them out online they’ll gladly stamp them there. I did it a month ago at Mexicali West

An FMM is $594 pesos, or about $30 American. If the website charges you more than $594 pesos it is a 3rd party site charging a hefty commission.

I don't think he said anything about exiting, only entering Mexico. When you purchase the FMM online you must fill it out completely including the date and location of crossing. If you enter on a different date or a different crossing it may not be honored. But if you fill it out at the border the date and crossing will be the actual date and crossing point.

7 days or less, the FMM is free. Even if you print it online, you have to stop at the border to get it stamped. There is no time savings by getting the FMM on line.
