Road conditions south of Cabo Pulmo
Can anyone advise on the road conditions south of Cabo Pulmo to La Playa, i.e. is it possible in a 2wd car? Would like to explore this area along the
East Cape but will unfortunately be in a car.
There's also appears to be another road thru the mountains from Antares on the coast back south to MEX1 at Santa Anita. I assume this one would
require a high clearance vehicle but not sure.
Any insights are appreciated. Gracias, Luna

I drove south through Cabo Pulmo last November, and it was a pretty good road then. I took a turn to the west somewhere south of Pulmo, and took
another dirt road through the hills to a small town just north of the Los Cabos airport.
Sorry for the lack of detail, but I was just out for a drive, and did not bother to use a map or GPS device. All of the roads were fine for two wheel
drive, and any crossover type SUV or similar would be fine.
I was driving an Isuzu Trooper, which handles rough roads very well, so I may not have noticed some rough spots that would cause concern for someone
in a sedan. Also, that was nine months ago, so things can change!
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

The new Baja Atlas shows 42 kms of well-used dirt and then a paved road goes inland from the coast on to La Playa, 20 kms. more.

It's been raining so the dirt road along the coast will be eroded a bit I'm sure. full time residents and surfers will keep it doable. Pulmo to San
Jose. Hot and Humid, too...bring cold beer!

Simple answer is yes you can. It will be bumpy but passable. Take your time and enjoy the views. Stay on the road and avoid the temptation to drive on
the hard looking sand down to the beach. Lots of cars drive the road every day. Cold beer is a good idea. Water even better.

I live in the area but don't recognize Antares. There are several roads in the mountains in that area worth exploring, but not in a car, especially
this time of year after the rains as mentioned above. But man o man it will be so green and beautiful.
There is a well traveled road that leaves the coast near the VidaSol and continues across through Palo Escopeta to Santa Anita near the airport. This
one should be passable.
Just know that all bets are off if there has been a significant downpour. Any of the unpaved roads are subject to washout this time of year.
No b-tchin\' in the Baja.

Thanks for the responses. I'll give it a try coming up in Sept and keep and eye on the weather. If someone knows a nice hotel or good accommodations
south of Cabo Pulmo, that would be great too. We usually stay in La Ribera and do day trips out of there to go explore but want to stay somewhere
along this section of the coast this time.

Vidasoul in Vinorama and the White Lodge a bit further south are both nice.

There are a number of rentals in Pulmo itself. The road was washed out days ago near/north of Zacatitos, but I am sure it is passabe now.
That can change at any time due to rain flodding arroyos.
There is road work further north past Vinarama as Sanchez Navarro, who owns coastal property in that area is paving part of the road near Ardillas.
There is bruhaha about this as locals are worried about beach access being lost. Senor Navarro has mucho dinero, he owns Modelo brewing.

We have a place just south of Villa del Faro and 5 minutes north of Vidasoul). Our son is staying there right now. As of yesterday, the East Cape
road all the way to San Jose was fine in a car, if you go slowly. The road past Palo Escopita (it is a road from the coast that leaves the East Cape
road just south of Vidasoul and meets highway 1 just south of the airport) was all good. Easily traversed with a car. But it is hurricane season and
that can change pretty quick if the rains come. Hurricane Nora fizzled so the roads (as of this morning) are all okay.

Olaf wasn't kind to the East Cape road. Reports today are that it is still not very good as of today. Likely need a 4 wheel drive

Should have update this earlier. As of early January, conditions were fine 2WD. All washouts repaired and grading fairly recent. Note that access to
Los Arbolitos was not open, contrary to some reports earlier in the fall.
