Eréndira Area Trip Planning

Hi All,

Planning a surf/camping trip to the area just south of Ensenada. Looking around Eréndira (Punta cabras etc) and up towards Punta San Jose and Santo Thomas. Anyone been camping down there recently and know which campgrounds are safe/open? Especially interested in Punta San Jose as the only thing I can find dates to 2019 and robbery.

Thanks in advance

Might be safe to stay at Coyote Cal's or 'Camping Manriquez, 0.8 mil south of Coyote Cal's.

Thanks for the help guys, I will check those two spots out. Coyote Cals is probably our backup if we don't feel comfortable camping elsewhere.

Punta San Jose will probably have other surfers camped out. It is relatively safe. Just don't leave anything of value out at night.

I've had people go through my campsite at Cabras the last time I was there a few years back. Nothing was taken, but never a great feeling.

Yes, Baja Malibu is still there but probably a lot more polluted and stinky than when you were there! : )

I regularly surf camp at Punta Cabras. Either on the bluff or in the dunes. Only once had a problem with getting my stuff stolen. 2 shady guys pull up in a red truck with a bag of lobster. They use the "selling Lobster" to explain being in your camp. If no one awake then they take what they want.

We got robbed by the guys above and then pieced the scenario together from guys camping down the way - who had actually caught the guys in the act. The robber gave back their stuff and gave them a sob story about being on drugs and not able to help himself. The robber was a heavy tattooed gang banger from PHX. Now living in the Bario of Erendira.

That was 1 in 20 trips(?).

No more worries about guy in red truck taken out by bad guys. I would no longer Camp if allowed in Santa Monica beach to Sad Diego . Same in Mexico unless in big many campers . Best go to beach with care taker or fish camp couple beers couple bucks . I have never had a problem doing it this way.

Any recommended small restaurante's in the immediate area around Erendira?

Tried to eat at Coyote Cal's once but they said you need to order the day before. Basically closed except for small groups was my interpretation.

They do - btw - have petrol barrels there, for those of us who like to top up. Pricey though.

I always eat at Gloria's. A yellow house up on the hill- on the right when you come into town. You can ask directions.

Planning on being down 9/17-9/19. We may camp somewhere just before Ensenada on the 17th depending on how our progress goes as I can't quite get the early enough start I'd like

Also thanks to everyone for all the responses!
