Help please-Steps to repatriate body to USA
A family member passed in Ensenada this afternoon, does any body have steps needed to get the body back?

If you have Mexican auto insurance through a USA travel club check the policy, some of them will fly you home if you are very sick. I don’t know
about deceased but it would be worth checking. If cremation is an option I believe that is available in TJ.

Thank you all for your responses.
The family had difficulty contacting the consulate due to the weekend, but they were contacted Saturday night by someone and given information and
recommendations for mortuaries who could help with the process and that spoke English, I called for them this morning as there were no English
speakers.
The family will arrive tomorrow with their papers and then go to the hospital and then the mortuary, the mortuary will then handle all the paper work
needed to complete the process I was told.

"Even if no assistance is needed in making funeral arrangements, the death of a U.S. citizen should be reported to the Embassy or Consulate so that a
Report of Death of a U.S. citizen abroad can be issued. This document is necessary to settle legal and estate matters in the United States."
"Upon issuance of a local (foreign) death certificate, the U.S. Embassy or consulates may prepare a Consular Report of the Death of a U.S. Citizen
Abroad. Copies of that report are provided to the next-of-kin or legal representative and may be used in U.S. courts to settle estate matters. To
prepare this document, consular staff will need original evidence of U.S. citizenship and identity of the decedent and the original Mexican death
certificate. We can issue 10 copies of the Consular Report of Death of a U.S. Citizen at no cost."

make sure you get those 10 copies as you may need them for several reasons and are very hard to get after the fact.
