Problem is it will probably pee them off when they can't start it and torch it on the spot! Wasn't it a black Toyota that was part of the other car
jacking on highway 5? I know Toyotas are popular in Baja, still strange/related?
I always have the best insurance I can get, let them have it and walk away. In the US they wouldn't be so lucky or they might depending on the
situation. Sometimes being a good witness is the best practice!

It beautiful, high elevation plains and hills... Have you ever driven Hwy. 3 from Ensenada over to Hwy. 5 (north of San Felipe)?
Old mine ghost towns, the last Spanish mission founded in Baja California, Indian villages that sell pottery, etc.
The nine-mile side trip to El Alamo is at Km. 85.5, about 5 miles from the crime location at Km. 77:

It is a shame that Mexico is so unsafe that driving at night is unsafe due to highway robbery.
Y’all act like it is acceptable for a society to be so.
Mexico has a problem.
The police are crooked, robbing the citizens and tourists.
Mexico is overall lawless and unsafe, the unsafe areas outnumber the safe areas.

Is it wise to assume that "jackers" zero in on expensive, late model vehicles for their value, as well as the expensive toys they are towing in? I
might feel better about my month long January trip knowing my 1999 Ranger would be ignored , as well as my caravan partners 2002 Pathfinder. I love
to blend in  )

I would think there are multiple risks involved in Baja night driving. Lack of shoulders, road condition, cattle or deer, lack of lighting,
poor/nonexistent signage, etc. Robbery might actually be a less severe outcome than a serious accident.
But, there's lots of places in the US I would be hesitant to be driving around at night, without the additional hazards of Baja. South Central Los
Angeles, perhaps? I had a couple scary encounters when driving through there on my way to USC from Redondo Beach in the early 80's. And that was
during the day!
