El Mangle Access and Question
Just made the trip to El Mangle. Started by going out the road from the military checkpoint north of Loreto and to the San Bruno fish camp. No one was
at the beach although there were fresh tire tracks. Two signs on the way out noted that it was private property but did not prohibit passage.
Along the way we also noticed that the gate to el Mangle was locked and a similar sign at that location said no passage allowed.
From a little west of the San Bruno fish camp we found another route in that was not gated or posted as not allowing entry.
We drove in and took a couple side trips to the beach on the way out.
The only people we saw the whole trip was a group at the northern end of Ensenada el Mangle by the mangroves. They were under blue tarps and we
assumed it was a fish camp. When we walked over to talk with them it surprised us that it was actually a group of about 10 kayakers from the
states--get this--earning college credit!
I have posted a couple photos and our track in (4X4 recommended).
So my question, what is the history of how this area got the name Mangle? I have read about the rumors of organ harvesting, mayhem, etc. and maybe
about a disgraced Italian doctor that tried to develop the bay 20 or 30 years ago, but the name Mangle dates back at least to the 1930's per the
various maps I looked at here and on David K's site. So, any insight?

Okay, struggling with posting it. Most of options have to do with the image rather than the track. Did it once, just can't remember how.

When I clicked on the link, I get an access denied message???
When you get an image to post, do not pick the thumbnail one. Images to show on Nomad should be 400 to 800 pixels wide. Generally they must be img and
not png images... but I am not 100% on that.
I provide the step by step for posting images using the FREE www.postimages.org site. See my top post in the Photos forum on Nomad for the instructions. Feel free to email me anything you want posted if you
can't figure it out.

Yes, got the pictures somewhat figured out and they appear to be there. It is the GAIA track I am having issue with. I successfully posted my track in
Tabor Canyon, but seem to have forgotten the steps. When I double click on the route I want to post it gives me a lot of options about "images" but
not really anything on the track, which is what I am trying to copy/paste/post.

I always thought the name came from the small mangrove at the north side of the bay. Some 30 years ago, before the building went up,
we stopped there in our inflatable and there was a white cross and grave near the mangrove.

Bob and Jane, thank you, that is the most reasonable explanation I have been able to find so far. Not really believing the organ harvesting, etc.
