Side by Side UTV Windshields

Hola a todos!

I am going to ordering a new 2022 Polaris General XP 4 1000 Deluxe with Ride Command and would like advice about windshields.

We ride without helmets & goggles_ just sunglasses, considering a full glass manual tip out Polaris front windshield and a rear mesh wind jammer.

Thoughts, personal experiences, and opinions regarding windshields?

Gracias y Saludos!

You should wear a helmet.

Here's the one I use the most: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NQNFJTQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b...

It's half size. Very strong plastic.

A full size one should be used sparingly. They will get mud all over them and you can't see.

I second the half windshield. I use sunglasses only unless I am on a dusty road unless I am on a long dusty ride then googles with sun glasses.

What I know but not used
*Full windshields can cause warmer cabin
*Some say more dust or some say less dust inside the cabin
*Never use any kind of full plactic windshield becasue static will cause dust to cling and make the viewing impossible
*Regardless because of dust use a helmet with a fresh air breather to overcome inhaling the dust. With a helmet. A built in intercom is desirable for communication
*Half plastic windshields work fine but do not offer protection from the flying rocks from your buddies. A helmet solves that problem or goggles offer eye protection.

windshields are not required., why buy one?

if you wear a helmet you are goo to go

i always wonder why boats have windshields...

they all just block the view and fog up

Wasn't an old Baja racer killed from a head injury in an SxS in the last year of two, driving sans helmet?

Definitely need one on a boat in the ocean if you are going off shore.

Water is freezing cold on the Pacific and very cold in the SOC some times of year. Plus it can get really rough out. You can't drive a boat with water in your face.

I just bought a new boat and it has glass to the T-top and even some on the sides.

RZR could get away without one. Half windshield just makes it a little safer.

John

A friend of mine that qualifies as an "old Baja racer" died in one without a helmet about 10 years ago when he had a head-on with a car around a corner on a dirt road.

Another "old Baja racer" friend of mine that many of you probably know and his wife almost died about 5 years ago "just going out for a slow putt" without their helmets.

Goat's advice is good on this point!

So 3 examples of very accomplished drivers/riders making the mistake that they were either not going fast enough or were too capable to need one.

Also, add window nets.

Also, put reflectors on driver's side mirror and fenders if you will be driving at night with other cars as the headlights are inboard and oncoming traffic could think they have extra room on your side of the line.

Safety is so important down here. Respect these things just like we need to respect Baja itself.

Used to ride my Harley a lot without helmet until they passed the helmet law in California. Got hit on Del Dios highway about two weeks later, back of my helmet took a beating. I'm a believer in helmets, probably wouldn't be here today.

When I was a kid we never wore helmets on our dirt bikes.

Always do now.

Never wear one skiing though.

you do need a windshield on a Pacific Ocean boat...

we had a complete camping cover when we would drive over to catalina from newport beach...

it got pretty cold and choppy out there but it came right off when we moored up

little ski boats dont need them...when its 100f

no helmet in a boat

Pretty stupid to not wear a helmet skiing

So…

Now that we have collectively handled all the helmets & boat window subjects in this thread, maybe we can get on track with the initial reason for this thread

Thoughts, opinions, and experiences with windshields?
Full? Partial? Glass? Poly?
Front only? Rear also?
Windshield in the front & Dust/Wind Jammer Net in the rear?

Thanks!

Half on the front. Plastic. Nets on the sides and back. They have back nets that will cut down greatly on dust.

Here is a good video that lists several good accessorizes for new RZR's. He also has links of where to get them.

https://youtu.be/_de-DxkRjX0

He shows a good thing to do for the back window.

Also, I have see full size front windows that will fold down or up.

SuperATV is a great place for this stuff. It is available through Amazon.
