Love All Types of Fishing

Love seeing how Baja locals approach fishing, especially when it is something I have not seen before. Watched one use a Hawaiian sling with a float and anchor setup today, right off shore, and he got 3 very nice halibut (he said he gets them up to 24" at times).

I have spear and sling fished quite a bit, and know the record chasers use floats, but this combination within 100-200 feet of shore was pretty cool.

He towed the float about 20 feet behind him, but I could not really see how he used it otherwise. I surmised that it is attached to his sling so that a large fish does not pull him under, and the anchor can either be hooked to the float while he is covering ground, or dropped to the bottom if he has a reason to be stationary, but this is only a theory. Other theories?
