nesting turtles is just another greenie argument to keep people off beaches.
Citing laws in Mexico won't get you anywhere
laws are there to be ignored
bottom line - beach front owners don't want traffic on "their" beach
traffic from "people who don't belong there"
I recently scouted a beach
every single home had a beach gate so the owners can drive their RZR onto the beach
go check it out yourself: 23°30'20.36"N, 109°28'18.28"W
but signs everywhere that driving on the beach is prohibited
and on weekends (when the locals want to have fun at the beach) the police is present to make sure, homeowners are not bothered
and yes, they do write tickets
since they have the power to confiscate your vehicle after you did something wrong - you'd better be careful

this past fall, nice beach, quads on the beach very commonly and the turtle nests clearly marked out with stakes and tape. Dogs freely running around
enjoying themselves chasing each other in the water. Seemed to me like a community trying to get along with each other, pretty much like the world we
were raised in.

Figured it out yet? Catch-22. MX laws in place, everyone knows about it, laws not enforced, stuff gets destroyed, police paid for services by
homeowners.
Surfers know what Locals Only means. If you don't live here, don't surf here. Lunada Bay, Pipe, Silver Strand Oxnard, list goes on. Drop in
on the wrong person, you'll be pummeled in the water.
Lots of beaches in MX. If a community is territorial, move on.

I'm just about the same age as DK, and it sounds like you are as well.
In 1963, there were about 3 billion people, today, 8 billion. That kind of increased competition for resources is going to require some kind of
social changes. And, presumably, even better cooperation to maintain some semblance of order. We've pretty much trashed the planet already with our
selfish ways.

I am glad to have been raised when I was by folks who were part of the great generation who beat both the fascists (WWII) and communists (Cold War).
They also took us to the moon and sent probes to every planet. We also cleaned up industry. The L.A. I remember in the 60s and early 70s was smoggy.
East Coast cities had dead rivers of pollution. Sure, we messed up but we learned how to clean it up since then.
After all that glory...

The Boomers threw trash everywhere and created all the smog.
Gen-X came along and cleaned it up.
Earth is better now. We don't need to hand trillions and trillions of dollars and control over to big Govt. and Biden (a Boomer) to try to fight
mother nature.

I saw massive cleanup beginning (at least in power generation utilities) in the early 70's Jz: Seems a bit early for Generation X to be in control of
decision making. The previous generation was recovering and rebuilding from 2 major wars and struggled just to get food shelter and a decent
healthcare system for their families after they returned from overseas fighting. I for one remain very grateful for their efforts.

Baby Boomer era is people born 1946-1964. President Biden was born 1942, not a boomer.
However, his and prior generations lacked the foresight to see what industrial actions would do regarding air, water & land pollution.
The boomers were the beginning of the end of that era, brought attention to the effects of pollution and passed laws to clean it up. Gen-X is
continuing that good work.

I think the boomers and those that followed them give themselves far too much credit for their actions of sitting on the lawns, smoking pot and
complaining about what their fathers accomplished while they were doing all the protesting. The people effecting the changes in 1974 would have been
about 40-60 at the time and born from 1914 to 1934.
The ones that lived through two wars, a major depression and worked for societal change rather than complaining about it. Seems to me in the US those
were the Jimmy Carter and Habitat for Humanity years.
That entire generation sacrificed a whole lot for the privileges we then and presently enjoy.

Interesting, and sounds about right (1946-) as 'we' came from the soldiers of WWII returning home and those back home making the bullets and bombs
(and Jeeps). I didn't realize Boomers went all the way to 1964.
Is there some official site that gives the birth years for all these named generations (Millennials, X, etc.)?

Here is a pretty discouraging list of countries by greenhouse emissions per capita by country, Canada and US are among the worst offenders, only
exceeded by the major mid east petroleum producers. Our love affair with powerful internal combustion engines to get around may be a major
contributor, despite all the regulations passed over the decades:

From what I've read, the average RZR gets around 10-14 mpg at about 10-15% overall fuel efficiency. Might be another good reason to start limiting
their use, especially for just recreational driving.
