WTF. You make it through 80 years of life and this happens. Unbelievable.

And I say that w/o distinction of where it happened. Just awful.

Wayne was my neighbor in Gonzaga and had a house in San Felipe where the tragedy happened. He was one of kindest and giving person I know.

He always was willing to lend a hand to help even though his hands were crippled with arthritis. If I needed anything in his shop a would shout out "I need to borrow.." and before I could finish He would yell back "that's fine help your self. Then he show up to see what I was doing.

Many times as we were sitting on his patio having a beer he would say "aren't we lucky and blessed to here right now enjoying this beautiful day" . He will be greatly missed.

Does this strike anyone else as strange?

This poor man was shot by someone carrying a rifle in town. The thief probably didn’t walk there to steal the Combi. So a car or truck with at least 2 or more armed people show up in the middle of the night in town not that far from the police station, fire what witnesses state were 5 shots to steal an old VW!

This sounds more like the goings on in LA Bay than SF. In fact I can’t remember the last time someone was shot during a robbery in SF! This poor man also has a place or sends time at Gonzaga Bay which is close to LA Bay where this sort of thing happens often!

Campo Ocotillos is ~5 miles north of town center.
Gonzaga Bay is about 100 road miles north of L.A. Bay.

I saw the Marina cruising around the Ejido a couple evenings ago with the machine-gun truck, I thought that was a bit strange. Guess that was what it was about.

I was thinking the same thing! A thug with a rifle would be bad, but if there is a connection to a crooked cop or soldier who is allowed to carry a rifle, it is even worse.

Yes, David but there has been armed violence and carjackings around Gonzaga too! Gonzaga is also the only closed military checkpoint that I know of in BC or BCS.

I originally thought from report it was closer to town, so definitely not a person on foot, but a group way off the main highway!

Indeed, yes! No one is safe anywhere, anymore... Well, unless you have 4WD and camp where that is needed to get to!

Sucks for senior residents of Baja... Remember how our beloved Mary Ann Humfreville was kidnapped in the middle of the night... and weeks later, her burned-out pickup truck was found under a bridge, 50 miles away. Still no body found for some closure for Kevin and Miguelito, the two Humfreville children... now adults.

The last few days there have been a large number of trucks, sometimes 2 or 3 together in SF. I Think someone important was visiting and giving a speech.

This wasn’t a one person theft. Someone drove the vehicle that got them there. The Mexican military generally doesn’t use .223 rounds that’s more a cartel thing.

I have seen troops with M-16s all over Baja. Call the ammunition a 5.56 mm if you want to be accurate, but it is a .223 Remington cartridge.

1972 ve is not typical auto theft target. Theft likely planned in advance. Should be easy to spot…
