I was surprised to see this made it to my MSN news feed! I have been visiting Coco since 2012, and rarely saw him with a shirt on.

No more fish, gracias
Heading north we always left some of our excess food with him,
No point in hauling it back home
He always was grateful,
but "No fish..... no mas, gracia"
I guess living on that route saw a lot of fishermen heading home with plenty to share.

I sometimes stopped and bought small amounts of fresh fruits and produce somewhere along the road when I was a half day or so from his corner. That,
and canned goods, like chicken chunks or other meats.
He also told me that he didn't like fish, but canned chicken was great. He said that while showing me a can of "Chicken of The Sea" tuna!

A sad day for sure.... I feel lucky to have visited Coco several times over the years. The legend will live on forever.

I can Drive down many miles of coastline here in the states, and across miles and miles of desert in the west and it can be a beautiful drive but it
has now heart, no spirit, it is just nice driving seen through a window.
But Baja seemed different, because of the people.
Like Paco said...we ALL gonna go... but a place is more than just a place, it is also the people.
With each mile paved, with each road rerouted and with each person passing it loses a little bit of what made it special.
