FMM Fee and online application US citizen
Normally we get the FMM at Mexicali 2/east crossing. Last time (Jan 2022) the officer asked for $40 each....easy peasy but I thought that a little
high. Does that sound correct in terms of fee? (I looked online but found no clear $$ fee). There is no separate teller....
Looking at getting it online, but that brings up the question if you cross a day or so early or late does that create an issue when getting it
stamped?

It was closer to $34 (I think) the last time I paid for a 180 day FMM (March). Check my trip report... I did use pesos I had. TMW may recall? We
bought them at the same time (Tijuana).

Thx, that was my $ range memory...
Curious about the online exercise and being early or late from the date on the application. I really don't like schedules...

You gotta cross on the date that’s on the online FMM. If you don’t, they won’t accept it.
Not sure if they’ll honor the online payment and just do another form or if you’ll have to pay again, never ran into this issue before.

The last 3 or 4 times we have crossed the border we have paid with a credit card. 1276 pesos for two people

Too many fails with the online purchasing of the FMM to ever consider doing that.
You still have to park and walk into the INM office to validate the thing... same desk where you just obtain one, in person.
Issues have been reported that once the online payment was made, you could not get the system to print you the FMM or receipt. Or, the INM people
would not accept the online FMM, so you had to pay a second time.

Just crossed last week. Up to 638 pesos, which is exactly half of what you paid for two. Very convenient to pay with a CC at the INM office, instead
of waiting in line at Banjercito.
Truly, there is absolutely no reason to prepay online, now.
My experience was at K21 south of Nogales in northern Sonora.

Funny story.... I purchased both FMM's online. Bring to Mexicali East immigration office to get stamped. For the first time ever, the lady asks for
the receipt for payment. I said, I didn't bring it (Because every time I try to show them, they have no interest, since you can't print the FMM w/o
paying...). We ended up having to pay again in the office.... Just didn't feel like making a big issue out of it. Another reason to just pay in person
now if you don't need to walk over to the bank anymore.
In that pre-Google Earth and social media epoch, The Code was adhered to. It was based on a simple verity: if a locale had been transformational for
you, and you had put the hard yards in to get there and to learn it, to know it, why in god�s name would you broadcast the news, thus ruining the
future experience not only for yourself, but for future adventurers?

Make sure they stamp your FMM
Last year I crossed at Mexicali west, I filled out hte form and the agent took my pesos right there and handed me the FMM. It wasn't until much later
that I realized that he didn't stamp it!
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!
"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

Another reason NOT to pay on line is that there are apparently "middleman" websites out there with quasi-looking Mexican govt. URLs that charge
significantly more. I guess it's just someone who acquires the personal info you type in on THEIR website and then fills in the same info on the govt
site and it is sent to you by the Mex govt. direct. They probably don't even have to deal with the postage and handling.
They also obtain where you are staying in Mexico, your birthdate and your passport number. Not sure what you can do with any of that, illegally.

Where you are staying in Mexico, probably nothing. But birthdate and passport number, as well as your credit card info? Anyone who gives that stuff
out online to anything but a trusted, official, secure site is a fool. That's exactly how criminals get info for identity theft.
