Baja Van Life Event - Escapar a la Baja - Feb 1 - 6, 2023
The fourth annual Escapar a la Baja van life and overlanding event will be held February 1 - 6th, 2023 at Playa Tecolote. The event is free and open to all, but
please RSVP at the website to help us know how many portos to order, and if you want to do something interactive like a workshop etc. please let us
know and we'll get it added to the schedule.
Also look for the limited edition "Escapar" beer from Cerveceria Transpeninsular available all up and down the peninsula this winter.

Your video looks like it is very bougie event, are you open for the more typical average van lifer?
Lots of van lifers living on streets in San Diego. You should hold your event closer to where all the homeless live, they would probably like to
attend an event like this.

I'm legitimately worried that Baja will be taken over by vanlifers. I think it has already started....
In that pre-Google Earth and social media epoch, The Code was adhered to. It was based on a simple verity: if a locale had been transformational for
you, and you had put the hard yards in to get there and to learn it, to know it, why in god�s name would you broadcast the news, thus ruining the
future experience not only for yourself, but for future adventurers?

Actually, in the 70s and early 80s, caravans were larger and more numerous. RVs and fuel were a lot cheaper then, and it was a growing
industry/lifestyle.
There are far fewer manufacturers offering much more expensive products now, and failed RV parks are all over Baja (and the roads to it).
I never used many RV parks, other than my stays at Campestre Maranatha west of La Paz, but the trend toward "Overlanding" is making it harder to find
relatively isolated camping.
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

Back on topic,… what is it that some travelers flock together like cormorants and geese, and other travelers stay alone like mangrove warblers.
When I go camping, my goal is to have a campsite alone, no people for miles.
This van life event is super odd, the travelers are purposefully flocking together like girls going to the bathroom in a bar. Very odd.

That's an easy answer goat, your leftist newspaper editors keep reporting on how dangerous Mexico is and it is implied that tourists are potential
targets of attack (what we Nomads would call 'fake news'). People still want some adventure but without the danger. Caravans give a sense of safety in
numbers or to follow a guide who knows the area and can show the newbies interesting sites they may otherwise miss.

DK, you can say whatever you’d like here, as long as Doug doesn’t deem it too much. It’s OK, your freedoms aren’t being taken away here on a
Baja website. But what I’m trying to point out is people come here to try to enjoy Baja, and aren’t interested in seeing political BS in a thread
about some van life people.

Humans are, by and large, a social species. While on the one hand I love exploring Baja and its remote corners by myself, I really enjoy coming
together at the Gathering where we all share in the joy of what we got to explore.
It's nice to not feel alone, sometimes, and to share joy with one another.

There are thousands of people visiting BCS by van this time of year, many campgrounds, hotels with space, remote spots, but in Tecolote there are very
few bathrooms, no running water, nor sewer, no stores, no gas, no services. Still it's a great spot for a day trip! It will be great to welcome these
visitors for a short term stop and enjoy La Paz, and the surrounding area. Lots to see and do!
