Dental implants needed.

Can anyone help me as to how or where to inquire about getting implants. I would be traveling from Arizona. Thank you

You don't have far to go!

Algodones, right on the border, has a whole industry centered around dental services. You can park on the US side of the border and walk, or catch a ride to a dentist.

I have not used any Algodone dentists, but I have had good results with the ones I have used further south. The first place I had any work done in Mexico was at Puerto Penasco (also referred to as Rocky point) but that was over twenty years ago. The work was very good, and at that time it was a nice place to stay.

The dentist I use now is in La Paz, and I have been very satisfied with the implants and crowns I have acquired there.

If your main goal is getting affordable dental work done with minimal travel, you can get what you want on, or near the border. My goal is a Mexico vacation in a place I could also get my old dental work repaired, so I usually make an expedition further south.

Whatever you do, make sure you use a licensed implant specialist, not just a dentist. And read reviews, and better still don't go to anyone who hasn't been highly recommended.

The dentist office I go to in Puerto Vallarta has 3 dentists, but only the older dentist who owns the business is licensed to do implants, root canals, etc. And I found that dentist through personal recommendations because another dentist had screwed up my implant and it had to be dealt with by someone else.

My dentist does not do the implants herself. She has specialists who come to her office to do the work while she serves as their assistant and translator.

Look for a periodontist, not a dentist.

Thanks, goat. I couldn't remember what an implant specialist is called, but indeed, the gentleman who fixed my botched implant and did my root canal is a periodontist. They have years more schooling in those procedures than a regular dentist.

When I asked the younger dentist in the office who takes care of most of my dental work, and who I quite like, why he didn't do implants or root canals, he said there are a lot of courses he still needs to take to be licensed to do that.

Implant specialist

Here in the states the specialist may be referred to as one who does "oral and Maxillofacial Surgery"

How do I know? I'll be seeing him within two weeks. Wonder what the cost difference will be as well as the quality of work.

In my case I will likely need three visits, not a one-stop situation, so traveling to the border probably won't work for me. The extraction will be rather complicated. Just lucky I guess.

We are talking about the same person! I would like to add that she is a very nice person and speaks excellent English. Credit cards are fine with her, and probably saves her the hassle of handling cash and/or converting currencies.
