La Balandra Rotary Club Clinic

Our latest spring clinic in La Paz provided the following legs and braces to the people of Baja California:
6 Left above knee prostheses
3 Left below knee “
6 Right above knee. “
3 Left below knee “
1 pair SMOS (aka ankle/foot brace)
1 AFO (aka below knee or short leg brace)
1 KAFO Repair (aka above knee or long leg brace)
We had a total of 65 patient visits, and were visited by patients from as far away as Mexicali, Bahía Asunción, Santa Rosalia, and Loreto, to name a few.

I’ve been retired since 2003, and so I’ve been out of the loop for quite a while, but I’m pretty sure the value of these systems is over $200K in today’s dollars.

I am hopeful that our clinic can continue, especially with the “new blood.” (The volunteers that have joined over the last few years.)
One of the new volunteers, Doug Pinkley CPO (Certified in Prosthetics and Orthotics by the American Board for Certification in Prosthetics and Orthotics) has started a 501 (c) (3) in hopes that we can generate some funding to help defray the clinic costs.

Here’s how it’s worked since 2004:
Volunteers pay for their own transportation to and from the clinic. The La Balandra Rotary Club of La Paz provides the lodging and the daily lunches at the clinic. All other associated costs (meals, entertainment, margaritas, non recyclable materials for fabrication, etc) are borne by the volunteers themselves. All other parts/supplies are from recycling old prostheses (artificial limbs) and orthoses (orthopedic braces) that we get from our many contacts in the states.

So hears my pitch. If one quarter or one third of the folks who are active on these forums could donate just a few bucks, we could fund the clinic at least into the 2030’s. And even though you may not know me from Adam, I can honestly guarantee that ALL donations, 100%, go directly to the clinic, NO administrative expenses, NO officers salaries, NO BS, NADA.

If you can include with your donation your email address, Doug can email you a tax deductible receipt, further cutting down on postal expenses.
Please make your tax deductible check to:

Limb Restoration Project A Nonprofit
Corporation
c/o Doug Pinkley, CPO
411 12th Avenue
Seattle, WA 98122-0000

Thank you for your consideration, Paul Boe CPO(e).

Are you set up to receive a Zelle transfer?

I have used it before to send cash to Blanca, and it just takes a few keystrokes. I really don't need a receipt since I don't itemize deductions anymore.

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

I’ll ask Doug and get back to you.

Wondering if you would have need for ROM knee braces, knee immobilizers, Don Joy shoulder slinks or cam walkers?
My patients are always asking me if I want them back.

Looks like a great a cause. Rotarians rock. Here are a couple photos from the club's Facebook.
