Santa Rosaliita & Sisters fishing - Winter
Hey Everyone,
Looking to see if anyone had any advice on coast fishing in the sisters region. I've gone several times but haven't had any luck on fishing (waves a
plenty though). Last year I was out there I saw someone haul a BUNCH of corbina or croaker up from the beach but didn't get a chance to chat with him
on what rigs he was using.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Spent a lot of time down there with absolutely no surf through my childhood, and be brought rods just to pass the time. Using sand crabs or mussels it
was pretty easy to catch corbina off the beaches. Also perch as usual. Later I'd just bring my mask and snorkel and out around the rocky headlands
there are a good amount of calico bass and sheephead, among others. Used to be a ton of pismo clams, but they aren't legal to take and always on the
verge of being fished out to depletion, so I just let them be. (Plus even with hammering the crap out of them, they are always too rubbery).
In that pre-Google Earth and social media epoch, The Code was adhered to. It was based on a simple verity: if a locale had been transformational for
you, and you had put the hard yards in to get there and to learn it, to know it, why in god�s name would you broadcast the news, thus ruining the
future experience not only for yourself, but for future adventurers?

It was a bonanza for Croaker, Halibut, Calico bass, and more at a place named Variety Beach by our late amigo, 'Whistler' (Glenn T. of Bahía
Asunción's Racing Team) who was a world-class fish-killer!
My folks and I were at a Mexico West (Tom & Shirley Miller) Travel Club camp at Laguna Manuela back around 1980 and Tom told us to drive north,
over the sand dunes to the long beach north from the hill that is Morro Santo Domingo on some maps.
What a gold mine! All the great-eating fish you wish. We used frozen grunion for bait (mussel or sand crabs also works) and would land corbina,
croaker, halibut on the sand beach. Just a short walk south to the rocks for all the Calico Bass you wanted!
Went there a few times between 1980 and 1985. That was when Hwy. 1 was really full of pot holes, just 7-12 years after the new highway was built (with
thin paving). My Subaru was pretty good at dodging them!

We have surf fished many a spot north of Rosalillita. We usually stay at Alejandros camp, then ride ATV's to the different beaches.
Sand Crabs work for the corbina, there are thousands of them and you dont have to cast very far into the surf.
We also used clams, as on low tide there are a few that pop up.
The Spotfin fishing can be off the hook! We caught some up to 10 pounds... they fight great

The 7 sisters area has always been good to me. Sand crabs both real and artificial work for me as do squid for croakers and corbina. I've caught spot
fin croakers with artificial worms. Also further south at at the coves at Morro Santo Domingo and long beach just north of there.

Thanks everyone! Are you just using a sinker and a hook for the sandcrabs/squid? Kinda Corbina style fishing?
