Friday Feb 16 plan, from Wornout:

This week we will head back to the Huatamote Canyon but from the east. I would like to see how far we get before we can't go anymore and see how far that is from two weeks ago when we had to turn around and head home.

We will meet across the street from the Airport Chevron at 9:00 am. From there we will head south on powerline road to the turn into the Huatamote Canyon, where the wells are. This run should be somewhere around 40 - 50 miles round trip.

From Wornout (2-20-24):

This Friday we will be headed to Copal Wash. We will meet at the tires at 9:00 am and head west from there. Copal is the wash between Diablo Falls and Esperanza Canyon. It is approximately 70 miles round trip.

A couple of us pre-ran it yesterday. I had a problem getting into the wash, I tried a shortcut, but once in there it was about a five mile run towards the mountains in a big wide arroyo. We will do a little searching for the entrance off mid laguna road so we don't have to go where I got stuck.

Due to a technical issue the Relieve map does not have the photos or video clips or the music. However, you can see their route (in high speed to Copal Canyon and back:

From Wornout:

Friday we will meet across the street from the Airport Road Chevron at 9:00am. We will head south to Hidden Valley Canyon. Once in the canyon, we will head west. We will take a little side trip in Hidden Valley Canyon and see if the Hoodoo's are still there after the hurricane. From there we will go out the west end of the canyon and head north in what we call Charm Trail. At the north end of Charm Trail we will then head towards Fossil Bed #2 and then to the tires. The total run should be around 50 miles.

Friday’s run will be north. Meet at the brewery parking lot at 9:00am. We will be going to Clamshell [Canyons] 1 & 2. Some of this area is where the Pete’s Camp Poker Run is held in October each year.

Mar. 8 Run: Turquoise-Clamshell 1 & 2 [canyons]

My apologies for not posting sooner... from three days ago:

https://www.relive.cc/view/vevY3KXWpJ6

For this Friday Mar. 15th, as the San Felipe 250 race nears... from Wornout today (Mar. 11):

The desert is alive with pre-runners so this week we will be going to the beach. Meet across the street from the Airport Road Chevron at 9:00 am. We will head south on the highway to just past Punta Estrella and then head east to the beach. We will be there for a couple hours and you will be able to surf fish. Most of the time we will be sitting on the beach. There is soft sand where we hit the beach so off-road vehicles and 4wd are recommended.

March 15 "Beach Run"

Watch: https://www.relive.cc/view/v4OGxYr8256

Some photos from the video show:

Not only did he not deflate (enough), it appears he was only in 2WD (not that 4WD is 100% manditory, if you let enough air out)

Another with too much air in the tires... oh boy  (at least he WAS in 4WD)

Wornout included photos of some of the places along Mex. 5. This one is very nice, at Km. 8.5:

Friday's run will be to Al's Place. This spot is north, off the high road, out in the Laguna, and about 8 miles past the Peac-ck Farm Turn. We will meet at the Tires at 9:00am. Total miles round trip is about 50.

I can just taste the dust. Why choose to head down dirt paths in a line of vehicles? I can understand the advantage of going with another rig to help getting unstuck. But that?

There is a long history of these regular day tours out from San Felipe or El Dorado Ranch to see geology or interesting destinations within a hundred kilometers, usually.

Bruce Barber (author of the geology and points of interest book 'Of Sea and Sand', was the first (I know of) to lead these day trips.
Next came our very own Nomad, 'bajalou' Lou Wells. After Lou passed away, Nomad 'wornout' (Warren S.) took over as trail boss, organizing these day trips for the retired or vacationing residents of the area who have appropriate vehicles.

It is just an activity to see new things or do things as a group. The only time I was with the (much smaller) group was an over-night trip to Parral Canyon led by 'bajalou' in April of 2004. We also went to Berrendo Canyon before my Nomad passenger 'Jide' and I left the group to see more canyons: https://vivabaja.com/p404/

DK, Your link to Lou's report is gone.
Quite some time ago the blue roadrunner site deleted many of the messages and trip reports on Blueroadrunner. Now the site is dead.
I saved one of the reports, but not the one you refer to.
Any chance you saved any Blueroadrunner trip reports?
