Continuing our road trip westward

Well, it’s been about a week and a half since I’ve regaled (bored?) y’all about our road trip, so I thought I’d catch you up on current happenings. After spending 2 nights on a beautiful lake (South Houston) near Bristol TN we started our trek westward to a Passport America campground in West Virginia (Brushcreek Falls RV Resort) for a single nights stay. The scenery from East Texas, through Arkansas, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Missouri has been nothing less than spectacular, at least when you’re out of the big cities along the way. Next stop was in Fallsburg KY at Falls Campground (another PA member). After a nights rest we drove on to the Outpost RV Campground in Salt Lick KY where we were befriended by a loan juvenile quail who was very talkative and friendly, not even afraid of our 8 pound poodle! We then stopped at Cummins Ferry RV Park (another PA) in Salvisa KY, then on to My Old Kentucky Home State Park in Bardstown KY. The antebellum home on the property was supposedly the inspiration for Robert Frost’s song. If you’re ever in the area do yourself a favor and check out Brown’s Farm Fresh Produce and Meat (Harvest Hosts member in Hartford KY). This place is THE BOMB! Bought some farm raised pork and beef, strawberries, tomatoes, and asparagus. The next morning before we left I went to return the box that the strawberries came in and to pay the owner for some more strawberries that we would pick ourselves. She gave me the box back and said pick all you’d like to at no charge! We’re still munching on them here in western Missouri! That day we drove to up to Centralia IN to stay at the C Town Twist (Harvest Hosts). Good sliders and great ice cream. Unfortunately the gravel lot was about 50 meters from the train tracks so if it wasn’t the whistle, the coupling and uncoupling, the bells at the RR crossing, then it was the rumble and vibration of the locomotives diesel engine! After a somewhat fitful night we left for our current campsite which is on the property of Acadian Moon Winery and Brewery in Higginsville MO (Harvest Hosts). We’re camped overlooking a small lake and the facility has a restaurant and bar. Tonight is the open mic night where locals can get together and jam. We’ll stay here 2 nights as the national weather service is calling a high probability for tornadoes in Kansas today. Tomorrow should be all clear. More to come.
