Wo0o0o0W...that was scary, about 5 minutes ago i was sitting at the PC when all of a sudden....EARTHQUAKE!!!!!!!! there has been three...well actually there has been one every day for the last three days...here in bahia asuncion everyone is out on the street in fear of another...first there was a small one, mom said it was bigger than the others but it felt small to me...thenabout 10 minutes after came the second one...they were about 5 seconds each but it was enough to give us goose bumps...wonder if there's gonna be one tomorrow???:?:

motoged - 11-24-2006 at 05:57 PM

SiReNiTa - 11-24-2006 at 06:47 PM

Bob and Susan - 11-24-2006 at 07:41 PM

nothing felt here in mulege...

Summanus - 11-24-2006 at 07:44 PM

Nothing here in Point Loma.

bajabound2005 - 11-24-2006 at 07:47 PM

nothing in punta banda

Russ - 11-24-2006 at 08:38 PM

Little quakes I believe are good because they relieve the pressure. But if it's volcanic..... Ohhhh Boy. LOL and keep us informed. Nothing in Punta Chivato.

shari - 11-26-2006 at 09:16 AM

So if it is volcanic, would that be why it doesn't show up on any websites...does there have to be a station nearby to register these tremors?? Are volcanic tremors localized like it has been here, it seems to only affect about a 10 mile radius. Hey maybe that's why the water is so warm....boiling below!

David K - 11-26-2006 at 09:23 AM

Shari, there is something going on just in your neighborhood it seems.

I am now guessing fishermen dynamiting or some mine operation. Maybe time to drive around and interview people and get them to point to where the blasts seemed to come from.

Is there local policia that can make official comment or do you need to get the army to come to Bahia Asuncion and witness this?

Things that are mistaken for earthquakes: blasting, landslide movement, heavy construction equipment moving about, sonic booms, etc.

Earth Shaking Events

MrBillM - 11-26-2006 at 04:13 PM

Perhaps it came from the Beach Crowd Friday and Saturday night at Rancho Percebu.

Their explosive activities seemed like they could have generated ground shaking hundreds of miles away. Unfortunately, no one found dead on the beach in the morning

shari - 11-26-2006 at 04:26 PM

Holy CRAP, she just shook again but the worst one yet at 4:01, a slight one at 4:03 and a monster at 4:08 that lasted about 5 seconds and lots of houses cracked and stuff fell down....yikes...now I AM getting nervous.

David K - 11-26-2006 at 04:28 PM

Shari, see my post above...

DianaT - 11-26-2006 at 04:30 PM

Sure hope you find out what is happening soon---doesn't sound like it is doing anyone's nerves any good.

Diane

jerry - 11-26-2006 at 04:30 PM

could it be capt george?? blowing his own horn?? again lol just kidding

shari - 11-26-2006 at 05:06 PM

No David, fishermen are not dynamiting anything. In the last hour it has shaken 7 times for 5 seconds at a time....a news flash came on the VHF from La Paz saying it is a result of some volcanic activity somehwere nearbye, there is alot of built up energy that needs to be released....it is shaking as I write this right now! Every few seconds now....I'm going outside, this is just too scary to be inside....hopefully back soon...

jerry - 11-26-2006 at 05:10 PM

if its an isolated area thats shaking id be heading out of that area for a while

shari - 11-26-2006 at 05:16 PM

I seems to only be felt slightly in Pta.Prieta about 25 miles from here, nothing in tortugas or San Hipolito so it has a small range...fiercest shaking is right here at the point but the whole village reports houses cracking...I keep thinking well it's gonna settle down as the last 5 days has only shaken 2 or 3 times a day but it seems to like this sunset hour most although has done it's thing in the wee hours and at bedtime which is very unnerving. The La Paz guy said to maintain calm that they think it's just some volcanic farting...hmmm. I'm gonna stay put and see what happens but I do have my car pointed towards the nearest hill and a little pack ready with my papers and such, maybe I'll turn off the gas tank too. The La Paz report made me feel a little better, lets hope they aren't lulling us into a false sense of security here.

"Volcanic Farting"???????

Barry A. - 11-26-2006 at 07:38 PM

That would do it for me------------I would be "out-of-there". Interesting that they are so "calm" about it in La Paz where they will remain uneffected.

"Plumes of smoke"????? Do you smell any strange gases?? Like a sulfur smell, and/ or "brimestone" smell??? This would be a "clue" to be taken seriously!!

jerry - 11-26-2006 at 07:59 PM

i think if they wait to smell gasses it would be way too late
i know for sure when oil wells are drilled there are gassess that have no smell and one wiff will kill you deader them a door nail

Iflyfish - 11-26-2006 at 08:42 PM

If I was there I would go NOW.

If my daughter and grandaughter were there I would say GO NOW!

I don't like giving advice, but if a volcano explodes below you, you will not be there to respond to this or any email. You are already having the warnings. Increasing earthquake activity and now venting, smoke and ash. You may be sitting on a vent.

Love,

Iflyfish

David K - 11-27-2006 at 08:49 AM

Maybe time to move the town to San Roque or further?

Shari, in your other thread you mention you saw SMOKE... I hope you are taking photos!!!

Email photos to me if you can't post them... It looks like rain here in Oceanside this morning so I may not be working all day... I will put them up right away for all to see.

If smoke or steam is venting near your house, I agree with the others... MOVE AWAY (at least temporaily)!!!

shari - 11-27-2006 at 09:55 AM

Sorry David no photos, I was talking on the radio at the time and looking out the window when it happened. I'm beginning to believe we're on a vent here....hmmmm. Maybe I'll go visit Tita and Bimbo in San Hipolito after all. All I got pictures of was the huge lineup of cars at the gas pump last night when most people fled the village.

Bruce R Leech - 11-27-2006 at 10:06 AM

I would not wait for them. they only shoe up in time to pull your bones out of the ashes.

Stickers - 11-27-2006 at 10:07 AM

Shari, any picture would help bring attention to your village. News agencies such as CNN need pictures to validate their reports. If you could get some news coverage you might get some attention in DF and maybe some real experts would come help your village.
The picture of the line of cars at the pump would work.

Iflyfish - 11-27-2006 at 10:11 AM

Photos like that worth money. News agencies buy them.

I am glad you are going. Stay safe amiga.

Iflyfish

shari - 11-27-2006 at 10:13 AM

The radio just had a specialist on who said it's normal venting and not to worry...that there are 2 areas where the plates may move near here...no problema. No one here has EVER experienced any tremors before. Store are closed, no fishermen went out, cold and windy today.....they say don't be alarmed...but stay informed....but all the information is speculation as there is no test apparatus here. Some say the movement of these plates could cause tsumamis...but probably not. they also said that because the quakes are felt in such a small area...like about 10 miles...even a little way out of town you hardly feel them. So we wait and I'll let you know what happens when the scientists get here...if we're still here!!:o

Iflyfish - 11-27-2006 at 10:39 AM

If I ask how you are and you say "bbqed" I am goin to be peeed.

Be safe amiga.
