Mula,
What are your rates? u2u me if you like.

I will be in your area sometime around January 6-13th.

If I stayed for a couple of sleeps could I leave my truck with you folks for several days while I ride my moto to La Purisima area for several days?

Gracias,
Ged

BajaBlanca - 11-21-2013 at 07:04 PM

Please post rates!

Ateo - 11-21-2013 at 07:20 PM

Sweet. Something tells me you're gonna get some visitors!

woody with a view - 11-21-2013 at 07:22 PM

$40/night plus a little something for the cleaning lady! on the bucket list, but just a bit far right now!

mulegemichael - 11-21-2013 at 08:55 PM

mula...get internet!!!...we all want it now when we go away for a week or so...cheap at twice the price...get internet and we'll be there!

Mula - 11-22-2013 at 05:51 AM

Right now the rate is $40 USD a night and if you want housekeeping - $5.00 per day extra.

Internet is not an option for right now. It would cost $40 or more a month here for the TelMex land line and HughesNet would be a lot more.

There are a couple of places in Lopez that have WiFi available - but only 2. And I have HughesNet at my house, which would be available.

Bob and Susan - 11-22-2013 at 06:08 AM

remember 1st of the year...

16% for the government
2% for the state

max write off 30%

Mula - 11-22-2013 at 06:40 AM

Yes, I have it.

Rates will probably go up then - a little.

bajacalifornian - 11-22-2013 at 09:19 AM

Hey motoged, consider a ride to Cabo de San Lazaro . . . south end of Isla Magdalena.

You'll enjoy it! Mula can share the logistics.

BajaBlanca - 11-22-2013 at 09:59 AM

Mula, is anyone doing Thanksgiving there?

Internet is up there in terms of wishes for an extended stay.

BC,
Thanks for the tip....I will be doing as much exploring as possible in the area. I don't fish, but I eat them  I hope to use Mula's place as a basecamp for several days for day rides, and possibly leave the truck there if I do a several day loop.

Any suggestions are welcome for a "100 mile radius" for that section of my adventures....

motoged - 11-22-2013 at 10:33 AM

BC,
I just Google Earthed (a new verb  ) Cabo de San Lazaro....no roads??....looks like a panga trip???

Lots of sand and mangroves....and a rocky point???

Mas???

[Edited on 11-22-2013 by motoged]

bajacalifornian - 11-22-2013 at 03:57 PM

You'll float your bike out to the island from Lopez. Head south to a fish camp at the end, over sand. Same way pickups bring supplies to the camp. (Shoot, I hope it's still there. Jimena was tough on it.) By Lazaro, I mean the east side near the water. In a car, must return before return of the tide. On your bike, should be no problem. Best to hook up with a local family at the fish camp for food and a place to crash. Good luck!

motoged - 11-22-2013 at 04:00 PM

Jeff,
I will consider it... thanks again :saint:

Internet option

bajaguy - 11-22-2013 at 04:11 PM

You could run a pretty inexpensive external directional antenna from your HughsNet aimed at the casita

Blanca: I don't think anyone is doing Thanksgiving here. Only one real restaurant and a not very tight knit ex-pat community. And I will be on a mule crossing the mountains from Mulege to San Javier. So even I am not cooking this year.

Motoged: I can hook you up with lobster guys who have a large cabin at Lazaro and would probably take your bike across in their panga for you.

Bajaguy: Where would I pick up one of these antenna's here in Baja. And what else would I need to hook it up? The casita is at least 1 kilometer away from my house. Would that still work?

Been to LaPaz today to be fingerprinted. Yahoo!

Oh oh....whadja do??

Re: lobster guys.....I don't particularly riding in deep sand  ....and beach sand tends to corrode the bike....but eating lobster and seeing the sights might work.

Thanks for the offer....we will see....

Will you be out of jail by then?

Are you riding mules via the road north out of San Isidro through the mountains to Mulege???

I have ridden (sp?) the road from Comondu to San Isidro, but want to do the ride north out of San Isidro to Mulege....and from San Javier to Comondu....

Good luck with your ride :saint:

Antenna

bajaguy - 11-22-2013 at 06:07 PM

Here is one from Amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/Directional-Internet-Antenna-Connect-R...

Maybe somebody could bring it down for you. I'm sure a local computer geek could set it up.

Getting RP cards.

We took out Honda Foreman over on the panga last year and yearly enjoyed it. You might want to do that. Also you go over to run the beach at low tide. It is really interesting: whale bones, dead turtles, barge and boat wrecks, lots of coyotes and interesting things on Magdalena Island. But you must work with the tides.

Yes, we are riding the mules in the reverse - Ranchito out of Mulege to San Isidro. We drove the 1986 Diesel F250 truck through there last week checking the route and conditions. Once we got to the base of the mountains, it was 4 low across the 3 ranges. A Great trip and we are really looking forward to this next week.

My husband says it is a bike trials kind of a ride: steep, steep, steep, switchbacks (3 point turns in a pickup) - 3 ranges to cross. Great vistas and incredibly green. Several places for long times it will be faster on the mules. No horses going on this trip . . .

Also leaving out of KM 28 on the San Javier road to Comondu is fine until you get to Monte Alban and then the fun begins! Well over 3 hours to Comondu. Lots of 4 Low.

Mula - 11-22-2013 at 06:16 PM

O.K., Bajaguy. great and Thanks. I am ordering one right now.
Just have to figure out who might bring it down for me and where to have it sent!!!!

Maybe internet coming - sooner than later.

Don't forget tomorrow is Saturday in Lopez - my favorite day. . . Gorditas at the market for breakfast, Rajas Tamales for lunch and dinner at Norma's.

Mula,
Thanks....the beach ride sounds inviting....depending on the tides ....and muck/quicksand...are you saying I could ride over?

As I have camping capacity, maybe I could tent overnight and watch the tide???

Mula - 11-22-2013 at 06:19 PM

No, you can not ride over to Madgalena Island. You would borrow our 4 wheelie and take it over in a panga and use it there. You can camp and explore.

And if you really get into the island thing - you could go to Santa Domingo Island just to the north of Mag. Island.

It's dunes, mangroves and really interesting desert to the ocean type of terrain.

bajacalifornian - 11-22-2013 at 06:30 PM

Wow . . . a three-way

motoged I respect your respect for the bike. You'd be on

packed beach near enough the water, bike would melt out from under you. However, my style would be to have Mula hook me up with the lobstermen, leave the bike at Mula's, and enjoy the journey.

Meanwhile, indian art comes to mind. Doves, to the south of the Lopez road. Mula is, your remarkable guide.

And, Lobster and such, should be server.

And, I get to be on Cher's trip!

(Cher I'll be using "the Antennae" in Rosarito. Talk over the campfire.)

Sensible and definitely doable....a bit of "deserted island" stuff. I can handle that :light:

bryanmckenzie - 11-22-2013 at 08:30 PM

Mula & Dan,

Thanks for a wonderful stay. Now that I'm back in Florida, I can begin to update my travel blog / trip report. Internet was spotty and I had little time since leaving you to update. But I've uploaded all files and simply need to link & write from here on.

I wish we'd had a few minutes to go see the casita. But your home/guest room was awesome.

And, guys, if you use the hard-connection at Mula's house, everything works fine. That's what I did when I 'lost' my power cord and needed Mula's assist.

Another thing, Mula, your hooking me up with Brandon in Loreto worked out great, even though I didn't meet him for the power supply. Easy to find, I got with his family, they had the power supply and it worked! Worth the US$50. Could he/they perhaps hook you up with the WiFi extender device?? Would it work over 1 Km?? Just a thought.

Thanks Bryan, I did not even think of Brandon. Will connect with him next time I am in Loreto and see what he can do. Thanks for reminding me.

Certainly no internet techies in Lopez. We barely have internet here.

Glad you are back in Florida and reliving your whirl wind trip. Looking forward to the rest of the story. . . .

yellowklr - 11-23-2013 at 03:40 PM

why don't you post pics of the inside also??? I'm interested

Mula - 11-23-2013 at 04:15 PM

I will when msteve1014 and wife check out in a day or two.
Were just finishing it up when they arrived. . . you know - Mexico - nothing gets done on time.

Nothing as spicy and nice as Shari's and Blancas in Asuncion.

Kind of rustic. But that is the Comondu's and the Sierra Gigantes.

msteve1014 - 11-25-2013 at 07:31 PM

We had a great time. We are in La Bocana now, canning wahoo. Better report tomorrow. Thanks Cheri & Dan.

jimcallard - 11-26-2013 at 09:28 AM

Mula, thinking about coming your way the week after Thanksgiving. Contact info? directions? Thanks! Jim

BajaBlanca - 11-26-2013 at 06:49 PM

Have a fun ride, Mula!

Msteve stopped by today with some wahoo for us to enjoy. He and his wife stayed at your casita and I can't wait to see his pics of Lopez Mateos.

Mula - 12-2-2013 at 04:00 PM

Jim,

I just got back from 200KM 5 days on the trail with my mule from Mulege to San Javier.

Am hot dirty and bone weary. Go to the local police station and ask for directions to Ls Senora con las mulas and they will bring you to my main house. That's what msteve1014 did.

I'll post better directions later when I figure it all out.

BajaBlanca - 12-2-2013 at 04:46 PM

glad you are back tired but safe ! and awaiting a trip report too.

Mula - 12-2-2013 at 04:53 PM

Yeah, me too. We are beat, bone weary and dirty. But what a spectacular time.
200 KM in 5 days - 3 mules and rides and my husband driving the camp truck.

Bajacalifornian's cameras have given up the ghost on him, so my bad photography is all you will get.

Maybe tomorrow. And maybe tomorrow pictures of the Lote 8 Guest House.

More Photos of the Casita.

Mula - 12-5-2013 at 06:21 AM

This is a work in process.
1st a new Toilet - oval and high.
Then a new bathroom vanity and kitchen sink.

It has a 2 burner propane stove top for now with an Oster Toaster Oven, but will eventually have an electric stove top or an apartment size electric oven and stove.

The kitchen lower cupboards will have Sunbrella Baja Colors curtains for covering.

And shower enclosure - probably glass blocks with a door.

The patio will have a BBQ of bricks a sink and there will be a palapa around the front and back end of the house.

Nothing snazzy. A photographer and interior designer, I am not.

The couch is a fold out sofa bed with a brand new mattress. Queen sized also, I think. . So 2 beds in the place, now.

There will be a patate door into the bathroom.

Looking into the bedroom area from the living area. No door yet. Have to figure that out.

Looking from the bedroom area to the living area.

A little fuzzy - don't know why. . . but the bedroom.

Bathroom

The washing machine will go when the oudoor chairs and the basket is.

The casita from the back with a big door in to the bathroom.

Patio area with a yard light and water spigot.

Side and front of the Casita. It is on a corner lot and 1 block from the estero.

motoged - 12-5-2013 at 01:41 PM

Mula,
The casita looks great. I hope to be in your area January 6th or 7th for 2 or 3 sleeps....one person.

Please U2U me to make arrangements.

Gracias.

Internet

bajaguy - 12-5-2013 at 01:52 PM

Mula - did you get your internet system up yet??......let me know how it works out

Mula - 12-5-2013 at 05:47 PM

Motoged,
you are set to go.
Bajaguy,
I ordered the antenna/ It is not here yet from the states.
Should be here in another week or so and then will be trying to hook it up, but the wireless router is in San Nicolas, so I have to go there to get it.

Hope to have it set up by the 1st of the year or so.

Still lots of little things to do over there, but - a work in progress - might as well be enjoyed!

Your casita looks really nice!

bryanmckenzie - 12-6-2013 at 07:23 PM

Cheri & Dan,

Your casita looks really nice! But being able to stay with you at your home was also a really nice experience. Thank you again. I've been "off the radar" with family issues since returning home, and working hard. But going to finish posting the trip report during the next few days.

I know, I know ... 4+ weeks behind.
