Our son and his family had to evacuate at about 10pm last night as they were in the path of the Lilac fire and with the winds, it was moving FAST.
As of the last text, the evacuation order had not been lifted, but it was looking better with a change in weather.
They hope to be able to return to their home tomorrow and that the fire does not reach them.
When I talked with my teenage grandson, he could not believe one thing. The police had gone up and down all the streets in their neighborhood calling
for a mandatory evacuation and as they drove out, he said it looked like many were not going to leave. I told him I was just happy his family had the
good sense to get out when told. He said the smoke was terrible and there were a few embers blowing around at the time.
No belonging is worth risking a life. So sad about the horses that didn't make it out. It all happened so fast and while there were so many people
with horse trailers trying to help, some were lost. My grandson said there was a very long line of vehicles with horse trailers!
What a horrible fire year --- first up north, and now in the south.
