Of course the real Baha, as you put it, is so many different things to each of us.
I'd suggest that by driving from TJ to El Rosario in 5 hours on a first time trip will make Baja a blur rather than a memory.

If the 'starting point' is in San Diego area (to get an early start in Baja), then the drive to San Felipe is also 5 hours... The idea is to see 'the
real Baja' (which means so many different things), and to me that would mean a landscape different than that of Alta California or the U.S.
To me that different landscape begins at El Rosario OR San Felipe... both 5 hours drive from San Diego (no moho or trailer)... 50 mph average speed.
Now rather one goes to El Rosario or San Felipe doesn't matter a bunch UNLESS some of the sites I mentioned are of interest (Indian rock art, the
world's only onyx schoolhouse, cactus forests, mission ruins, island studded Sea of Cortez). If those are interesting to you, then go to El Rosario
first, so you are not rushed on the return leg to see them.
San Felipe south has nice beaches (some of the best), but not any of the other items until you get towards Gonzaga and on to L.A. Bay.

So many great offerings. Thank you all so much. I think that for now we might focus on some mix of Packoderm's Gonzaga trip and David's Bay of L.A
suggestions. Mulege sounds amazing, but it seems as though it would be pushing the driving a little harder than we'd like, considering our 7 day time
frame.
As for the truck, its an 88 big old ford of some type; good shape. I don't think that its a four wheel drive. I've put in a message to my dad to
give me some more info on it, as we are borrowing it from him in Ventura, California. We wil be insuring it for our trip through one of the listings
in Moon Handbooks' Baja Guide. Should I get the Auto Club tour guide in addition to that?
Thanks again to everyone for every little bit of help in this, including all the tips on places and things to see and stay and eat, the reminders to
make our own baja experience, those great photos, safety information, web links and everything else. I'm getting so excited for this trip.
