I made some edits and believe I am nearly finished with Parts 1, 2 & 3... Part 4 I may just leave here on Nomad with a link to it from the web
page...

The goal with this revised web page is to have accurate facts about the 27 missions and many of the visitas in Baja. There just is way too much
mis-information being published on the sites (including the brand new 2008 book/ folding map 'The Camino Real and the Missions of the Baja California
Peninsula' with so many mistakes) has inspired me to do this.
Eventually, these new web pages will replace the mission pages now on VivaBaja.com
Thank you Nomads for your input and photo contributions to the new site!

With new discoveries made in July, 2009, I have edited this page with the addition of Santo Tomas site #2 and the Boca de Magdalena ruins. Satellite
images have also been updated.

There is room for more discovery... Some mystery about the location or number of sites for the southernmost missions still exists!
For example:
The first mission south of La Paz was originally to be established on the coast near Los Barriles around 1721 as 'Ensenada de las Palmas'. Exact
location unknown. Things didn't work out!
In 1722, the mission was re-established inland at 'Santa Ana'. That too failed after a roof collapse killed many during a hurricane.
In 1724 at a third location to the south, the mission succeeded for some years and was renamed 'Santiago'.
