You are absolutely right. If well made and well finished, it'll last a good long time!

I like your idea of skining the uppers and sides on the outside for better aerodynamics and put the frame down on the bottom for a good smooth inner surface. Sounds like you've got it pretty well designed out. I vote you build it!

Oh, and you'll love the Kreg jig.
