The volcano at the north end of Smith Island... the source of the title of Mike Humfreville's book 'In the Shadow of the Volcano'.
We visited with Paulina, Bedman, elgatoloco, aha baja and others at Paulina's place and learned that Mary Ann Humfreville and the boys had already
returned to California.
Paulina told us where Mike was, so we could pay our respects. He shares a spectacular view of this bay he loved so much with the locals also buried
there... people he had the greatest respect and admiration for!

We had dinner at the Las Hamacas Restaurant, locted next door to the former site next to the Las Hamacas Motel and returned to hear that Roy and the
Baja Pits crew had a great BBQ feast.
In Baja, you have to really try to go hungry!
Saturday morning we say goodbye to Carlos and his Baja Pits crew as we want to continue to give Josh a Baja tour. Roy (TheSquarecircle) says he wants
to follow along with us...

What a great early Christmas present. Your passion for Baja comes to life with each picture, caption and post....thanks David K.
You see, I live a few thousand miles from Baja and it has been 11 years since my last border crossing. The only way I visit Baja these days is
vicariously through posts here on bajanomad and from annual trip reports from my ole Baja buddy Dr. Rafe Payne (27 years taking his college classes to
Baja every January for three weeks.)
I enjoyed all your pictures of the Bay, especially those of Mike's Mountain. I climbed his mountain years ago, with Mike, at his invitation. Up one
day, down the next. If you want the best seat in the house for sunset and sunrise at the Bay, there is no better.
Mike was truly one of the original bajanomads.
Thanks again David for letting me ride along, it was a great trip.
